THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be acting as a Special Agent, hearing and writing decisions on cases involving requests for payment arrangements and appeals from Bureau of Consumer Services informal complaint decisions. You are responsible for reviewing the written decisions of administrative law judges and suggesting revisions or clarifications. You will have the opportunity to perform legal research, prepare legal memoranda, help prepare training and reference materials, and make presentations. In addition, you will serve on various intra and inter-bureau committees.

The Office of Administrative Law Judge (OALJ) serves the public interest by ensuring that justice is fairly and efficiently administered in each and every case. OALJ presents an exciting and rewarding work environment for those interested in providing due process and meting out justice.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.

  • Telework: This position is headquartered in Harrisburg. Telework is a potential feature of this position. The successful candidate is required to report to the headquarters worksite daily, unless the employee meets eligibility requirements and telework has been approved. To be eligible to participate in telework, the employee's Alternative (telework) Worksite must meet the following requirements: The telework worksite must be located within a reasonable travel distance of Harrisburg and within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

  • Please direct all questions regarding reasonable distance and the type of available telework to the PUC Human Resource Office at ra-puchr@pa.gov or 717.787.8714. Management may discontinue any telework arrangement at any time, for any reason. Candidates who do not wish to telework, or who are not eligible to telework, will work from the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of law and certificate of admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania; or

  • Completion of all preparatory steps and application to become a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Post Employment Requirement:

  • Applicants must be certified for admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and must maintain membership on a continuous basis during employment.
