VIEW JOBS 5/8/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-08-06T00:00 The CNC Programmer & Production Scheduler is a new cross-functional role assigned to the Supply Chain team, and working with both the manufacturing and engineering teams, will be integral in supporting the stand up of an exciting new capability for the company. The CNC Programmer & Production Scheduler will program new and existing sheet metal parts for fabrication and improve sheet metal CNC programs to increase quality, decrease cycle time, setup time and scrap rate. In addition, the role will perform daily dynamic nesting and schedule fabrication jobs for a kit-based production model that meets assembly schedule and customer demands, ensuring daily successful interaction between the fabrication programming, machine scheduling software, and the ERP system (product scheduling). This position is a mostly software role within a manufacturing operation and is a part of the overall fabrication team. Essential Job Functions: Functions which are critical to success and should be given top priority. This job description is meant to highlight essential priorities, but is not all-inclusive: * Become an expert in using the machine vendor and associated software. * Conduct CNC programming for new and existing sheet metal parts for the fabrication department (for example: Salvagnini tower, automation, laser-punch, panel bender and press brake using software such as MetalStudio, StreamBend, StreamForma.) * Perform daily nesting using machinery nesting software (i.e. MetalStudio). * Document programs created and modified for future troubleshooting or training purposes. * Work with supply chain, manufacturing and design engineering to ensure part programs and nests are always updated to the latest part design revision. * Run equipment to test and troubleshoot all programs created before releasing for execution. * Work closely with technicians to ensure programs and nesting strategies achieve optimal cycle times, quality, setup times, and reduce raw material waste. * Perform modification of existing programs to ensure optimal cycle times, quality, setup times, and reduce raw material waste. * Support in the development of tooling set up, and change-over documentation. * Assist in preparing standard operating procedures with the appropriate input from machine operators, supervisors and technical personnel. * Support and facilitate all training and cross-training on the fabrication programming software, and on the fabrication equipment for operators and office staff. * Assist maintenance and engineering staff in troubleshooting equipment. * Support and assist engineering and production to solve production-related problems. * Work closely with manufacturing and design engineering to ensure part manufacturability on fabrication equipment. Together with manufacturing and design engineering, make modifications to part design, when required, to allow manufacturability. Assist engineering team in estimating production cost and cycle time for new products and for product design changes. * Prepare daily and weekly production schedule for fabrication department. * Support efforts to prepare interactions between ERP system and fabrication programming and scheduling software. * Ensure daily successful interaction between the fabrication programming and scheduling software, and the ERP system. * Work with IT and supply chain to ensure bridge between. * Build in time to handle re-work, quick-turn job, errors, prototypes, etc., needs in the flow of daily schedule and in response to real-time daily or hourly needs. * Build in time for machine downtime, preventative maintenance, and unpredicted failures. * Determine with other teammates, how many kits to build ahead and/or safety stock levels for unique parts. * Review daily and long-term fabrication department lead times and share information with other departments to allow corrective actions. * Communicate with production teams and other teams to assess prioritization of jobs to ensure uninterrupted supply to downstream assembly operations. * Review raw material supply daily, notify and assist buyers in purchasing raw material for the fabrication department. Required: * Mechanical aptitude including advanced blueprint and measurement reading abilities. * 1-year minimum experience or equivalent in a manufacturing setting strongly desired. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communications skills, ability to make independent decisions with a high level of accuracy. * Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D software and/or experience with CAD/CAM software. * MS Office proficiency. * Strong ability and willingness to work in a team. Preferred: * Associate degree from two-year college or technical school or equivalent work experience. * 2 years of CNC programming experience, preferably in fabrication. * Knowledge or experience of metal manufacturing processes. * Experience with fabrication equipment preferably Salvagnini equipment or other CNC equipment. * Scheduling experience with Made2Manage or other ERP software. * Willingness to work flexible hours to trouble-shoot problems may be needed at times.
