POSITION: Attendance and Residency Officer
JOB OBJECTIVE: Provide Residency Verification/Checks and assist School Administration with Student Attendance issues
ATTENDANCE AND RESIDENCY OFFICER
Reports to: Superintendent and Building Principals
Job Objective: Works with school administrators and community organizations to address student attendance, behavior problems, and ineligible non-resident enrollments.
I. Minimum
Qualifications:
1.Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. 2. Embodies high ethical standards and integrity.
Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct. 3. Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies. 4. Ability to establish working relationships with co-workers and function as part of a cohesive team. 5.
Commitment to keep current with workplace innovations that enhance personal productivity. 6. Consistently dependable and flexible. Accepts new responsibilities/assignments willingly. 7.
Ability to interact comfortably and confidently with the public. 8. Demonstrates ability to work a flexible schedule. 9. Maintains necessary certifications for CPR and First Aid. 10.
Meets all mandated health screening requirements. 11. Adheres to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.
II. Essential
Functions: The following are essential work responsibilities.
1.Works with school administrators to identify non-resident students enrolled in district programs. Facilitates removal of ineligible students according to district policy and legal remedies available to the school district. 2.
Monitors attendance and employment of minors' laws. Helps parents and students understand employment minors' law and compulsory attendance requirements. 3. Recommends revisions to student/parent and teacher handbooks.
Develops procedural protocols necessary to comply with legislative mandates. 4. Responds to requests for assistance with truancy concerns. Investigates and corroborates evidence.
Prepares a checklist to prevent procedural errors when documenting information. Confirms legal residence. Documents employment.
Maintains a list of relevant phone numbers. 5. Upholds board policies and follows administrative guidelines/procedures. Refers policy interpretation inquiries to administrators. 6.
Advances the professional image of the service center and affiliated school districts. Maintains open/effective communications. Uses problem-solving techniques to tactfully address concerns. 7.
Helps facilitate community participation in activities that enhance student learning. 8. Contacts parents or guardians when the school has not been notified about an absent student. Mails written notification when contact cannot be established. 9.
Prepares a warning letter outlining the legal consequences of continued truancy. Presents the letter in person or uses certified mail when contact is not possible. 10.
Maintains high standards for student conduct.
Counsels students to acknowledge and manage responsible personal conduct. 11. Processes legal complaints with the prosecutor's office when truancy persists. Represents school districts at hearings. Prepares and provides detailed testimony.
