ATS Electrical Engineer

As an ATS Electrical Engineer, you will be a vital member of the engineering team in the Motion

  • NEMA Motors in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The ATS Electrical Engineer will have a detailed technical understanding of the entire NEMA product portfolio and be capable of providing high quality solutions through frequent direct contact with customers/sales, both domestic and international. Reporting to the Director of Technical Solutions, you will participate in various Industry Organizations and write/present technical papers in relation to that industry.

Your responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of technical competence of the NEMA product portfolio.

  • Maintain a detailed understanding of Agency requirements for NEMA motors (UL, CSA, SIRA, ATEX, etc.).

  • Maintain a detailed understanding of environmental compliance requirements (ROHS, REACH, WEEE, CA Prop 65, etc.).

  • Provide innovative solutions to difficult application problems, while ensuring new product developments align with our strategic initiatives.

  • Work closely with R&D and Product Management to maintain awareness of new product offerings and understand new product capabilities.

  • Knowledgeable in AC Induction, Permanent Magnet, DC, Synchronous Reluctance, and Servo motors.

  • Participation in Certifying Agency Technical Committees and Industry Organizations.

  • Perform thermal performance calculations, temp rise and start times, run the Induction Moto Performance program, review and analysis performance/load data, update performance curves, etc.

Your background

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and minimum 5 years of experience working in related field.

  • Strong leadership, influencing skills, strong ethics, personal integrity and the ability to work with others.

  • Ability to use Megohmmeter, Dielectric Tester, CIV tester, Oscilloscope - preferred.

  • Understand manufacturing concepts, processes and Flex-Flow and Lean concepts.

  • Sound people development, coaching skills, good strategic thinking, result-orientation, change-driven competence will be considered as a plus.

  • Some travel (10-15%) will be required.

  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

As a Senior R&D Electrical Engineer, you will contribute significantly to technology and product development projects by identifying and implementing innovative solutions. Reporting to the Director of R&D - Electrical, you will be responsible to design and develop of new products and product redesign with an emphasis on design development and optimization, electromagnetic analysis, and design-to-cost. This position also includes support of current products and product standards. Your responsibilities * Technology and product development of new products and support of current products. * Establish electrical design and product standards. * Perform detailed cost-benefit analysis for use as an input in design optimization. * Create new electrical designs with special emphasis on 3-phase AC induction motor modeling techniques, design methodology and establishing design standards. * Direct and interpret results of testing in order to verify motor performance. * Ensure product designs are cost effective; meet the specifications and performance requirements through the practical application of engineering, design principles and industry standards. * Support of manufacturing processes as required. * Interface with Product Management, Sales and Supply Chain for training, application assistance, and product specification discussions. Your background * Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Engineering or Physics and minimum 10 years with 5 years in AC induction motor design is required. * Experience or education in the specific area of electromagnetics is required. * Experience in electromagnetic modeling methods (FEA) is required. * Strong team skills and communication skills to work with Sales, Marketing, and customers. * Computer programming experience is a plus. * Experience with SAP, AutoCAD, SolidWorks is a plus. * Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
