The Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) and the Risk Monitor (RM) application is seeking a Nuclear Safety Analyst to join their team of talented analysts.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for providing expert level support of the ATR PRA and RM to ensure maintenance to state-of-the-art PRA consensus standards.

  • Ensures the PRA and RM accurately reflects the facility configuration and are maintained as a state-of-the-art tools.

  • Applies the ATR PRA and RM in support of facility modifications, development of basis for the facility TSRs, accident frequency calculations, and facility safety enhancements.

  • Assist management in the application of the PRA and RM as risk based management tools.

  • Provide technical reviews and advise management on risk issues.

  • In addition, the individual will be responsibility for understanding the role that PRA has in the ATR Safety Basis and will qualify as a ATR Nuclear Safety Analyst as well as obtaining 10CRF830 USQ qualification at the ATR.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Level 3- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science plus 5 years experience working with nuclear industry PRA and nuclear safety analyses.

  • Level 4- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science plus 8 years experience working with nuclear industry PRA and nuclear safety analyses.

  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred knowledge of the ATR PRA and Safety Basis.

The Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) Directorate at Idaho National Laboratory is seeking applicants to be the next ATR Chief Technology Officer/Chief Scientist. Reporting to the ATR Associate Laboratory Director, you will be a part of the ATR Management Team by leading ATR's nuclear energy R&D related activities, supporting the modernization of research capability, and be a recognized specialist in applied nuclear engineering research and development. Responsibilities Include: * Provide technical leadership and collaboration on ATR's portfolio regarding current and strategic thermal irradiation capabilities. * Provide strategic recommendations to the ATR management team in identifying and evaluating research capabilities which will help strengthen proposals, key technologies, and investment strategies directed toward growth. * Serve as a primary technical point of contact for the ATR to partner with internal and external programs, customers, and collaborators responsible for integrating and facilitating science and technology mission areas. * Provide strategic leadership and lead ATR initiatives to expand use of ATR for research on fuels and materials with focus on collaboration with the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program and industry and university partners. * Connect with INL's other nuclear organizations, Nuclear Science & Technology (NS&T), and Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) to deliver nuclear science and technology outcomes for INL. * Support active engagement and leadership in the nuclear industry, DOE Office of Nuclear Energy (NE), Nuclear Reactors (NR), and the broader INL community to anticipate, contribute to, and influence technical and programmatic direction. * Lead efforts to develop new or improve existing ATR irradiation capabilities. * Maintain a nuclear industry network, develop collaborations with industrial partners, and lead U.S. and international nuclear universities and laboratories. This includes universities associated with the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) and the INL National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC). * Provide recommendations on future growth areas to support industry needs. * Lead activities to recruit, retain, and develop ATR post-doctoral candidates and interns representing ATR for post-doctoral programs, the Graduate Fellowship Program, the Intern program, and as needed for the Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) Program. * Stay current on domestic nuclear industry trends and advise the ATR Associate Laboratory Director (ALD) on scientific matters. * Ensure experimental results and data are effectively coupled with modeling and simulation tools to support NNPP and INL supported code validation and increased understanding. Minimum Qualifications: * PhD and 10 years or Master's and 12 years proven experience in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering preferred OR other engineering/science field. * Must be a US Citizen and must be willing and able to acquire and/or maintain a DOE Security clearance. * Proven leadership in nuclear research and development * Must have an understanding of how R&D is performed at industrial or government institutions, * A skilled communicator who can build relationships, and express complex concepts orally, in written reports and technical publications that are clear, concise, and meaningful, * Ability to work with employees, management, advisory councils, and stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues and develop impactful strategies and executable plans.
