DICKINSON STATE UNIVERSITY (DSU) is a regional comprehensive institution within the North Dakota University System, whose primary role is to contribute to intellectual, social, economic, and cultural development, especially to Southwestern North Dakota. DSU is seeking to hire an Athletics Grounds Keeper and Building Maintenance Coordinator, Sanford Sports Complex/Biesiot Activities Center. This position is vital to the immediate and long-term success of the facilities and the overall athletic program, as well as the community at large. Both the Sanford Sports Complex and the BAC facility bring hundreds of people to campus each year, including athletes, families, and spectators. These facilities serve as hubs for community engagement, fostering a sense of pride and unity.
This position is designated as Essential Personnel and as such may have varying hours. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours including weekends. This position reports to the Athletic Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
Bachelor's degree
Experience in maintaining grounds including grass athletic facilities, turf athletic facilities, and all functions related to maintenance and upkeep of those facilities.
Software skills in MS Office Suite, including MS Word and Excel.
Detail orientated, conscientious.
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work well with diverse populations.
Ability to present professional demeanor at all times.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Maintain the overall appearance and functionality of the athletic grounds at Sanford Sports Complex, ensuring they are safe and suitable for training and competitions.
o Regularly inspect and maintain athletic fields, including mowing, watering, fertilizing, and repairing any damage. Regularly inspect and maintain the turf including snow removal during winter months.
o Manage irrigation systems and ensure proper watering schedules.
o Monitor and control pests, weeds, and diseases affecting the grounds.
o Prepare and maintain playing surfaces, including marking boundaries and installing necessary equipment for various sports.
o Manage equipment inventory, including maintenance and repair of tools and machinery.
o Collaborate with other departments to coordinate the use of athletic grounds for events and activities.
o Maintain and clean all buildings on site at the Sanford Complex. (Concession stand, bathrooms, press box, locker rooms and training room.)
o Physically able to stand, walk, use hands dexterously, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, the majority of the time working.
o Ensure the proper maintenance and care of the turf and track at the BAC facility, keeping them in optimal condition for training and competitions.
o Regularly inspect and maintain the turf. Including snow removal during winter months.
o Coordinate with BAC coordinator and relevant departments to schedule and execute routine maintenance, such as line marking, resurfacing, and repairing track surfaces.
o Set up and tear down football field for gameday and practice use. Help coordinate and set up track equipment for track events hosted at the BAC.
o Mow and maintain the grass area inside the BAC and the area surrounding the football field and track.
o Mow and maintain the area of the Wienbergen practice fields.
o Help the BAC coordinator with event set up and coordinate with facilities interior seasonal BAC custodial needs as needed.
o Physically able to stand, walk, use hands dexterously, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, the majority of the time working.
o Complete other work-related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or designee within the department of athletics.
COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
Salary of $40,000-45,000/annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience
