POSITION SUMMARY
Serve as a physician extender in the primary care, primary care sports medicine, and/or orthopedic clinical setting and specialize in the delivery of high-quality health care to patients of all ages and athletes of all skill levels. Promote the Andrews Institute within the Children's Health System within his/her own entity as well as through community outreach initiatives and serve as an integral part of the healthcare delivery team. The Athletic Trainer / Physician Extender will report to assigned physician and practice administrator while performing clinical, front office duties, and others as assigned; Will prevent, assess, and treat emergency, acute, and chronic injuries; Recondition athletes and active individuals after injury to prevent injury recurrence, impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform appropriate patient intake for a variety of medical and musculoskeletal conditions. This includes, but is not limited to, thorough history of condition or injury, chief complaint, assessment of pain level, completion and / or review of past medical history, family history social history and medication reconciliation.
Perform appropriate physical examination per patient history and chief complaint. This includes but is not limited to palpation of the affected area and unaffected area, range of motion testing, strength testing / manual muscle testing / dynamic muscle testing, myotome/dermatome testing, ligamentous stress testing, or functional testing.
At direction of supervising physician, perform appropriate point of care testing and order appropriate diagnostic testing or follow-up care.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: At least 2 years of working knowledge of the domains of athletic training: injury/illness prevention and wellness protection, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate and emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation, and organizational and professional health and well-being.
Preferred: Clinical training required for Athletic Training Certification
EDUCATION
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required: Texas Athletic Trainer License
Preferred: NATABOC upon hire
Required: BLS though the American Heart Association upon hire.
