Athletic Marketing Specialist
Full -Time (12 Month Employee), Non-Exempt, Category 4
Salary Range: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
Reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications
OVERVIEW
The athletic marketing specialist is a member of the OCS marketing and communication team whose primary area of responsibility is athletic marketing. The specialist will focus on athletic marketing collateral, develop, and implement effective social media strategies, create compelling content, manage online communities, analyze performance metrics, and stay updated on social media.
The successful candidate must be self-driven, motivated and able to work independently and in a larger team. The candidate must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, creative, multi-tasking and deadline driven environment. The specialist will also assist with marketing efforts for the upcoming 25th school anniversary.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Creates, designs and posts content for the athletic social media accounts (Twitter and Instagram)
Writes athletic press releases that are approved by the marketing and communications director
Coordination of the yearly National Signing Day ceremony and all associated press coverage
Builds and maintains relevant game-day and weekly graphics and photos
Assists with the maintenance and development of the athletics web pages
Attends after hours and weekend events as needed to capture photo or video content
Demonstrated success in following social media trends and implementing a social media campaign by working as or with content creator
Collaborates when appropriate with the school general and performing and visual arts social media account specialists
Creates and manages social media content calendar
Provides live coverage and real-time updates during important events/games across appropriate social media, work with event organizers and photographers/videographers to gather content
Builds and manages online communities-engaging with followers, responding to comments, and handling inquiries or concerns in a professional and timely manner
Analyzes the reach and results of posts, identify influencers, compare platform engagement levels, and improve ROI. Reports quarterly on results achieved
Helps create athletic marketing collateral such as flyers, monitor and marquee graphics
Creates the annual Football Media Guide
Collects, organizes and archives athletic photos for marketing and promotional tools
Writes the weekly events announcement for games where announcements are made
Works alongside the Director of Media Production and OCS film teachers to obtain filmed performances (as needed) for promotional content
Fosters strong relationships with the athletic faculty, staff, coaches and students and regularly reach out to them to research potential story ideas
Develops potential athletic and general marketing ideas into engaging news/feature stories for digital and hard copy publications
Assists with coordination of school athletic events in which news coverage is requested
Assists with official communications between the school and the athletic media by initiating story ideas and assisting with requests for athletic coverage from media and school personnel
Using school communication and social media resources/tools, coordinates the exchange of information with parents and the general public regarding adjustments to athletic schedules, venues, protocols, and expectations
Assists with the development of marketing programs and materials that best promote the athletic department
Additional job duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
A four-year degree in marketing, sports marketing, communication/journalism or related field
A minimum of two years of directly applicable experience (graphic design, writing, editing)
Ability to write journalistically for stories and copy
Ability to conduct interviews with a wide range of constituents such as students, parents, volunteer, faculty, staff, coaches, board members and members of the community
Demonstrated website management, preferably for independent schools
Demonstrated experience in managing social media accounts
Proven understanding of content management systems. Finalsite experience is a plus
Basic knowledge of photography
Competency in Adobe Suite: Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
Comfortable working flexible hours that will include some night and weekend events
Outgoing with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly establish rapport with people
Proven experience in taking initiative, meeting deadlines
Knowledge of asset creation for the website
