RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with adult and adolescent patients of all fitness
    levels, with an emphasis on proper technique and functional movements

  • Demonstrate how to
    carry out various exercises and routines. Give alternative
    exercises during workouts or classes for different levels of fitness and skill

  • Monitor patients
    progress and adapt programs as needed

  • Explain and enforce
    safety rules and regulations on sports, recreational activities, and the use of
    exercise equipment

  • Give patients
    information or resources about nutrition, weight control, and lifestyle issues
    and their application to substance use recovery

  • Design workouts activate the neuroendocrine response
    (responsible for the runners high)

  • Provide education on maintaining a healthy lifestyle,
    which may also minimize drug cravings, serve as a positive distraction and is a
    beneficial way to structure the day without using drugs or alcohol

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors
    degree related to a fitness field (exercise science, physical education,
    kinesiology or related subject)

  • International
    Fitness Professional Association certification preferred

  • CPR and
    First Aid certification

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum
    three (3) years of related experience working with patients with substance
    use disorder or PTSD

  • Experience
    as a Physical Therapist Assistant preferred

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
    skills. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, and
    interact with staff and patients.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and
    discern who has a need to know sensitive data or information

  • Ability to instill and maintain a strong
    customer service environment and a sense of professionalism within a stressful
    environment

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced
    environment

  • High comfort level with technology,
    including proficiency in MS Office products

  • Ability to establish and consistently
    enforce appropriate boundaries with patients

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Maintain current certifications as required

PHYSICAL
DEMANDS

  • Must have
    a high degree of energy, be physically fit and have the endurance to
    complete workouts and lead groups and physically demonstrate proper use of
    equipment and sports techniques

  • Frequently
    required to walk, sit, stand, run, talk and hear

  • Must use
    hands and feet to operate objects and equipment

  • Stoop,
    kneel, crouch or crouch and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Exposure
    to patients infected with Hepatitis B, HIV, TB, or other Infectious
    Diseases is possible

SCHEDULING

  • Part Time: Every Other Weekend: Saturday and
    Sunday: 8:00am to 5:00pm

VIEW JOBS 1/12/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-12T00:00 Phoenix House, a nonprofit substance use treatment facility in Arlington, VA is looking for a part-time personal trainer to work with our Adult Men and Adult Women in our residential programs. This is an hourly position, working two weekends a month (both Saturday and Sunday) from 8am-4pm. Must be a Certified Personal Trainer. Other certifications are a plus. SUMMARY This position will work with patients in our adult residential substance use treatment programs. Will oversee and direct aerobic activities, specifically spinning and stationary bike routines, strength training, specifically TRX, and stretching on mats and balls and appropriate floor routines for the individual class. We will not have free weights. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Work with adult patients of all fitness levels, with an emphasis on proper technique and functional movements * Demonstrate how to carry out various exercises and routines * Watch patients do exercises and show or tell them correct techniques to minimize injury and improve fitness * Give alternative exercises during workouts or classes for different levels of fitness and skill * Monitor patients’ progress and adapt programs as needed * Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations on sports, recreational activities, and the use of exercise equipment * Give patients information or resources about nutrition, weight control, and lifestyle issues and their application to substance use recovery * Design workouts activate the neuroendocrine response (responsible for the “runner’s high”) * Provide education on maintaining a healthy lifestyle which may also minimize drug cravings, serve as a positive distraction and is a beneficial way to structure the day without using drugs or alcohol * Administer fitness assessments * Give emergency first aid if needed * Performs other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
