  • Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement) and local supplement for athletic director

EXEMPT

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area.

  • Experience in organizing and operating all aspects of an athletic program preferred

  • Previous coaching experience preferred

Goal:

Athletic Director: To provide each enrolled student of secondary school age an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport, and the principles of fair play.

Teacher: To develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of pupils in physical achievement; and to develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports in accordance with each pupil's ability.

Athletic Director Duties:

  • The athletic director will provide a list of all equipment to the principal on a yearly basis.

  • The athletic director shall oversee and implement the coaches' evaluations.

  • The athletic director shall meet with parents as requested.

  • The athletic director shall ensure all sports are treated equitably and will advocate for all sports.

  • The athletic director shall provide a means for all coaches to have input in the needs assessment for each sport.

  • A needs assessment form will be provided to each coach at the beginning of the school year. The form must be returned to the athletic director and reviewed by the principal.

  • The athletic director will create an athletic budget and will meet as needed with the principal to review all athletic accounts including athletics, individual sports accounts, and booster accounts. The athletic director will develop a budget based on the average of the past 3-5 years of gate receipts. The budget will be presented to the administration for approval and submitted to the county athletic director.

  • The operational budget and financial procedures are to include:

  • Preparation and supervision of the athletic budget

  • Direct sale of tickets for all contests.

  • Follow proper financial procedures for cash handling and gate/ticket receipts

  • Collect all monies from the athletic contests and deposit in the appropriate accounts.

  • Ensure that all money raised or collected by the school will be deposited in appropriate school athletic account.

  • Ensure that the donations from the booster organizations are equitably dispersed among all sports and used for those intended fundraising activities by the boosters.

  • The athletic director will develop a master schedule for all competitions to include all athletic events for the school year. The schedule will be submitted to the principal for approval. The principal will submit the master schedule to the office of the Lincoln County Schools Athletic Director. The schedule will provide equity for all sports in the use of facilities for competitions.

  • The athletic director will develop a schedule to ensure equal access to all weight rooms for male and female athletes.

  • The athletic director will work with the Lincoln County Schools Department of Transportation to schedule activity buses.

  • The athletic director will ensure that all activity buses are returned clean and on time to the appropriate site.

  • The athletic director will coordinate with the maintenance department, the repair and maintenance of all facility needs which are utilized by the athletic department.

  • The athletic director will provide the principal with eligibility lists for all sports for their approval. The AD will ensure the below requirements are met for each athlete of each sport.

  • The athletic director will ensure all rules and regulations as mandated by the NCHSAA are enforced with all sports at each sporting event.

  • The athletic director will ensure that coaches have the information on all pre-season paperwork turned in before participating in any school sponsored athletic activities including but not limited to try-outs and practice.

  • The athletic director will work with coaches to ensure try-outs for sports are held appropriately which is defined as announcing dates and times of tryouts in a timely manner, equal access to tryouts, and a measurable rubric to measure the athlete's performance during tryouts.

  • The athletic director will work with each coach to address facility needs and maintenance of all athletic facilities including locker rooms, competition fields, practice fields, and weight rooms.

  • The athletic director will provide documentation to the principal that all head coaches and assistant coaches have attended the required rules session and taken the appropriate course work issued by the NCHSAA.

  • The athletic director will report all violations of eligibility or other NCHSAA rules directly to the principal and county athletic director.

  • The athletic director shall provide security at all events held on site or off-site as needed to maintain the safety and integrity of the scheduled event. The AD will also ensure that the appropriate staff is in place for crowd control based on our Fire Marshall's recommendations.

  • The athletic director will work to resolve any conflicts within the coaching staffs.

  • The athletic director will act as a tournament manager for all league and tournament playoff activities that are assigned to the school.

  • The athletic director will plan and supervise the athletic awards programs with the cooperation of the administrators and coaches.

  • The athletic director / administrator will coordinate the use and operation of the press box.

  • The athletic director will attend and serve as school liaison at athletic booster's organization meetings.

  • The athletic director will assist the administration in the preparation and distribution of complimentary passes for the school.

  • The athletic director will prepare and obtain signed game contracts when appropriate.

  • The athletic director will ensure that all coaches carry out the pre-season meetings with parents and athletes and ensure all pre-season paperwork is signed and returned.

  • The athletic director will ensure that all athletic facilities are prepared for practice and/or competition.

  • The athletic director will develop a preventative maintenance schedule for all facilities and equipment.

  • The athletic director will report all coaches who are ejected or disqualified from an event to the principal and the Lincoln County Athletic Director.

  • Other duties as assigned

Teacher Duties:

  • Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities

  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district

  • Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program

  • Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement

  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil to the extent feasible

  • Teach physical education classes for handicapped pupils as necessary

  • Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils

  • Maintain control of storage and use of school-owned property

  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas

  • Evaluate each pupil's growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports

  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities

  • Select and requisition uniforms, equipment, and instructional aids

  • Maintain required inventory records

  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress

  • Identify pupil needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems

  • Cooperate with school administration in providing specially performing groups for special occasions, PTA meetings, assemblies, and interscholastic athletic events

  • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day

  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs

  • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities

  • May be asked to coach extracurricular athletic activities

  • Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects

  • Other duties as assigned
