Salary Placement and Work Hours: This is a 12-month, full-time position.  Placement will be on the C2 Salary Schedule. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, and hours worked will be a minimum of 40 per week.

Start Date: August 2024Job Title: Athletic Director and Assistant Softball Coach

Essential Function: The primary duties of this position include oversight and coordination of the Northeast Alabama Community College athletic program. The athletic director will provide vision and leadership for the athletic programs by developing plans and organizing, coordinating, and managing all aspects of intercollegiate athletics. The Director is responsible for Athletic Department fundraising; schedule management; staff oversight; budget coordination; and public relations for all athletic programs and is responsible for maintaining records necessary for eligibility. The athletic director implements and directs the athletic programs at the College in compliance with the rules and regulations of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) and in accordance with the policies of the Alabama Community College System and Northeast Alabama Community College policies. The athletic director is also the manager of facilities and equipment for the athletic programs. The Director also serves as the institutional representative to the NJCAA, Region 22, and ACCC. This employee must comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Northeast Alabama Community College. This employee is under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean of Instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Athletic Program Coordination and Compliance

  • Serve as the primary coordinator of all College athletic programs.

  • Supervise all aspects of the athletic programs, ensuring compliance with NJCAA, ACCC regulations, ACCS Board policies, and NACC's Institutional Guidelines.

  • Coordinate and supervise the intercollegiate athletic program through each team's head coach.

  • Oversee all operations of the athletic department.

  • Maintain currency of knowledge on all standards of acceptable operation.

  • Coordinate all recruitment activities of athletic programs to ensure compliance with conference and national rules as well as compliance with institutional recruiting procedures, working closely with the Office of High School Relations

  • Work with the Office of Promotions and Marketing to promote athletic program information

  • Update the NACC athletic website with required NJCAA information and other important information regarding the programs

Administrative and Organizational Duties

  • Develop, implement, and communicate athletic department philosophy and goals with the NACC administration, faculty, student-athletes, and alumni.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures with guidelines for managing the athletic department.

  • Establish, implement, and maintain an organizational structure defining reporting lines, key tasks, and responsibilities.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor fiscal planning of the athletic department, including budget management.

  • Submit recommendations and coordinate decisions with the Associate Dean of Instruction and the President.

  • Develop and oversee plans related to student-athlete's well-being, including CPR and AED training.

Staff Management and Development

  • Recruit and maintain a staff of highly qualified and successful head coaches.

  • Promote a collaborative and unified approach across the athletic department.

  • Support the professional development of coaching and athletic training staff.

  • Conduct and present annual evaluations of each head coach per the institutional personnel evaluation procedures and timelines.

  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of departmental staff.

  • Ensure compliance with personnel actions adhering to college, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Student-Athlete Support and Development

  • Establish and maintain high behavioral standards for student-athletes.

  • Advocate for student-athletes and assist with challenges, concerns, and conflicts.

  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to facilitate academic success.

  • Develop awards programming and promotion of student-athletes.

  • Coordinate annual orientation for all student-athletes, including coordination with other departments.

Facilities and Event Management

  • Coordinate activities and use of all NACC facilities.

  • Develop a "game day" plan and checklist for home games.

  • Ensure proper working order of facilities and equipment.

  • Coordinate the scheduling of games, meets, concessions, and other activities.

  • Coordinate team travel and logistics adhering to budgetary practices.

  • Maintain inventory of athletic materials, supplies, and equipment.

Community and External Relations

  • Serve as chief advocate for Mustangs athletics in the community.

  • Establish professional relationships with high school coaches in the local area.

  • Coordinate with NACC organizations to ensure the athletic program's success, image, and integrity.

  • Participate in local, state, and national meetings.

  • Represent the College and its philosophy to prospective students and the community.

  • Maintain the College athletic program webpages with currency and accuracy.

Fundraising and Financial Management

  • Collaborate with teams on all fundraising efforts

  • Develop a yearly fundraising plan for each sport and monitor progress.

  • Coordinate the purchase of equipment, uniforms, and other needs.

  • Submit requests for purchases through appropriate institutional processes.

Regulatory and Compliance Responsibilities

  • Ensure ongoing eligibility of athletes.

  • Coordinate drug testing of athletes.

  • Confirm and issue NJCAA letters of intent for scholarship athletes.

  • Certify eligibility of athletes to compete and maintain up-to-date audit files on each athlete.

  • Ensure all athletes have physicals, doctor's release, and insurance.

  • Coordinate with the Title IX Coordinator for required training and compliance.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist the head softball coach with training, practices, and game arrangements.

  • Attend team practices and games to evaluate coaching techniques and team morale.

  • Participate in required employee training and meetings.

  • Develop constructive relationships with faculty, staff, students, and community members.

  • Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and NACC.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or President.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient use of the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access.

  • Working knowledge of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Minimum Required Education, Training, and/or Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited institution is required

  • Prior experience working with softball-related instruction is required

  • Prior experience working with student-athletes at the college level is preferred

Employment Contract

  • The employee awarded this position will be offered employment on a contractual basis as desired by the President and cannot, as such, attain non-probationary status. (Alabama SB33)
