Position Overview

In accordance with all NCAA, Conference and University policies and procedures, this position assists with the coordination of academic support services for student-athletes under the supervision of the Associate AD for Academics. Duties include, but are not limited to: managing and overseeing the Academic Center, monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes, coordinating student-athlete progress and academic feedback reports, monitoring and reporting weekly study hall hours, and acting as a liaison between the Athletic Department and various on-campus departments and faculty members.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the Athletic Academic Advisor for certain teams as assigned.

  • Conduct weekly academic support/advisement meetings with at-risk student-athletes. Monitor weekly academic progress and send academic updates to coaches and sport supervisors.

  • Monitor weekly study hall hours for all student-athletes and send reports to respective coaches.

  • Run and review the student-athlete eligibility report throughout each week to ensure athletic eligibility is being maintained.

  • Work with Iona University Athletics Compliance and the Registrar's Office to ensure student-athletes are meeting all NCAA academic eligibility requirements. If a student is not in compliance, provide a plan to get them back in good standing for NCAA eligibility.

  • Provide student-athletes with information about alternatives, limitations, and consequences (both academic and NCAA eligibility) of academic decisions.

  • Partner with various on campus departments to ensure student-athlete success and retention (Center for Advising and Academic Services, Counseling Center, Faculty, Rudin Tutoring Center, etc.).

  • In conjunction with the Center for Advising and Academic Services, work with student-athletes throughout the registration process each semester, ensuring that the course load is appropriate and balanced.

  • Assist coaches in the recruitment process of student-athletes by sharing academic information and by meeting with prospective student-athletes during campus visits.

  • Coordinate communication of information related to important dates, deadlines and procedures to all student-athletes, coaches and administrators.

  • Serve as co-advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

  • Assist with organizational, time management, and study skills through the use of creating calendars / agendas, mapping out course syllabi, scheduling tutor appointments in The Rudin Center, etc.

  • Assist with game day operations during basketball season. Aid in other game day responsibilities as directed.

  • Serve as game day administrator for designated sport.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in appropriate area of specialization with experience in collegiate athletics; Master's Degree preferred.

  • Knowledge of NCAA and MAAC rules and regulations, specifically pertaining to academic eligibility.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work in a time sensitive, team-oriented, collaborative environment with irregular hours, including nights and weekends; problem solve, think creatively and organize; have a sense of urgency and work well under pressure; exercise good judgment, flexibility, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.

  • Takes initiative, great attention to detail and possesses strong follow up skills.

  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Experience with Peoplesoft, Blackboard, ARMS, CAi is preferred.
