The University of Montana is seeking interested candidates for the position of ASUM Sustainability Coordinator, a re-structured position that will dually report to the Associated Students of the University of Montana and the UM Office of Sustainability. As the Kless Revolving Energy Loan Fund (KRELF) has continued to grow, the need for additional administrative staff support has become apparent. The marketing and outreach components of this role are a response to the growing need for campus and community engagement around sustainability. An increasing number of incoming students are seeking an academic home that reflects their values of social and environmental wellbeing. The restructuring of the ASUM Sustainability Coordinator position is a response to these changing and growing needs.

This position is unique in that it will involve oversight of the student-funded revolving energy loan fund as well as coordination of sustainability and transportation marketing and engagement efforts. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent self-direction and creativity, enthusiasm for college-directed marketing and outreach strategies, an aptitude for teamwork, and an interest in learning more each day about what sustainability can and should look like on a college campus.

This position will be housed within the Associated Students of the University of Montana (UM's student government organization) but will also report to and work alongside the ASUM Transportation program and the UM Office of Sustainability.

This position will supervise a team of 2-4 student transportation ambassadors. Supervision of the sustainable transportation ambassadors will include the recruitment, hiring, training, and ongoing support of these student employees. The transportation ambassadors lead the marketing and engagement efforts for ASUM Transportation, including outreach for the student-funded public transit service and bike and pedestrian programs.

Required Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Literacy with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Experience with outreach and engagement.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage several unrelated projects at once.

  • Curiosity of the breadth of sustainability and how to engage a campus community in sustainability work.

  • Fantastic organizational skills.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and enthusiasm for tapping their marketing potential.

  • Ability to communicate sustainability messages to diverse audiences.

  • Event coordination experience, preferably in a college setting.

  • Ability to conduct research into green revolving funds, comparable university sustainability initiatives, and other relevant topics.

  • Experience with the marketing of social campaigns, including experience with graphic design in a variety of formats.

  • Experience with group and meeting facilitation.

Minimum Required Experience

  • High school diploma (or equivalency) in addition to three (3) years of related experience that includes administrative duties; or any combination of experience and education that provides the competencies necessary to successfully discharge the duties and responsibilities assigned to the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • Experience managing grants and/or experience managing budgets that include more than one account.

  • Experience with website design and management, preferably in Cascade.

  • Experience supervising student interns.

  • Sustainability project management experience.

  • Experience building program capacity through training, fundraising, and coalition-building.

About the Office of Sustainability and UM

The University of Montana's Office of Sustainability is dedicated to working with faculty, staff, and students to improve the sustainability of our operations, campus culture, curricula, and community. Position Details

Position Title: ASUM Sustainability Coordinator (Program Coordinator II)

Position Number: new

Department: Office of Sustainability

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year, with occasional weekend commitments for events or special meetings. Position may also flex the summer work schedule depending on projects and workload.

Salary: $15.253/hr Current employee's rate of pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation plan and will minimally be this posted salary. For questions and details regarding the staff compensation plan, email the Compensation Department.

Union Affiliation: Montana Federation of Public Employees (MFPE)

Probationary Period: Six months minimum
