The Department of Computer Science, Engineering & Mathematics at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) offers a B.S. program in Computer Science with concentrations in Data Science, Cybersecurity and Game & Simulation. The department is designated as a NSA Center of Excellence in Cyber Defense. Our rapidly growing department invites applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track 9-month faculty position in computer science to begin on August 16, 2024, with a focus on Software Engineering/Software Development.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in computer science or a related field by August 16, 2024; however, ABD applicants may be considered. Expertise in software engineering/software development is essential; potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate level using engaged learning strategies appropriate to the discipline and level (normal teaching load is 12 hours per semester); and demonstrated scholarly productivity.
Successful candidates must have the qualifications and interest in teaching a wide range of Computer Science courses. Candidates are expected to keep an active research group involving students and be willing to collaborate with the facilities coming to campus such as the National Guard's Cybersecurity Readiness Center, and the Advanced Manufacturing National Lab Collaborative (AMC). In addition, the faculty will have the opportunity to collaborate with area institutions such as the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence and the Savannah River National Laboratory. Salary commensurate with qualifications and teaching experience.
USC Aiken has the "power of proximity" and is bringing together key partnerships to create a Cybersecurity ecosystem in Aiken County that leverages the missions of Fort Gordon (only 20 miles from USC Aiken), the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) (only 15 miles from USC Aiken), the South Carolina National Guard, and other South Carolina entities.
There are significant synergistic activities that make this position unique in South Carolina and throughout the Southeast.
The U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence (CCofE) has a partnership with USC.
A $50 million Department of Energy Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative (AMC) research building is under construction on campus that will focus on cybersecurity and other cutting edge STEM technologies.
The South Carolina National Guard is designing a $30 million Cybersecurity and Readiness center on the USC Aiken campus.
USC Aiken is now the only four-year partner institution with SANS Technology Institute (STI). Through our exclusive agreement with STI, the STI undergraduate certificate has been folded into our four-year cybersecurity degree as an option for students.
This is an exciting opportunity to help grow and shape a growing Cybersecurity program and our key partnerships at USC Aiken. Faculty in this position will have the opportunity to collaborate with and develop faculty-student research projects with our industry and government partners.
