Job Description:

As an Assistant Head Nurse you will act as an assistant to the Manager, Nurse in assuming responsibility for the organization, management and direction of a single unit or specialized area within the department. Assume charge position in absence of manager.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Nursing Process

  • Applies hospital patient care standards and nursing practice standards to patient care activities.

  • Performs admission and ongoing assessment of the patient/family.

  • Develops and implements patient's plan of care based upon identified needs, consistent with the physician's plan of care and mutually agreed upon goals with patient/family.

  • Performs all clinical skills as per policy and procedure.

  • Performs effectively in emergency situations.

  • Provides patient/family education relevant to identified needs and abilities.

  • Evaluates and documents patient progress/response toward expected outcome(s) and reports pertinent observations.

  • Prepares patient and family for discharge and follow-up utilizing appropriate nursing/hospital and community resources.

  • Documents all aspects of the nursing process.

  • Organizational Ability

  • Collaborates with peers, physicians, and other professional and non-professional members of the health care team.

  • Communication Skills

  • Informs physician of patient's current/changing status.

  • Promotes a professional atmosphere through courteous communication with patients, visitors, physicians and fellow workers.

  • Acts as a Liaison person for his/her staff with other departments to expedite the delivery of patient care.

  • Conducts meetings with staff for the purpose of communication and improving nursing care within the unit in the absence and/or collaboration with the Manager.

  • Accountability

  • Attends/participates in Leadership and/or unit staff meetings and reviews/signs minutes of all meetings not attended.

  • Quality Improvement

  • Participate in monitoring patient care standards.

  • Identifies and participates in Quality Improvement efforts.

  • Improves performance based on results obtained from Quality Improvement activities.

  • Leadership

  • Schedules patient care assignments for various employees, both professional and non-professional.

  • Evaluates the performance of employees assigned to the unit and makes recommendations concerning such performance.

  • Serves as a resource person for new orientates.

  • Guides and supervises patient care staff in accomplishment of goals of care on a daily basis and during emergencies.

  • Delegates and assigns patient care activities and ensures these activities are performed appropriately.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency to oversee staff that performs delegated clinical tasks in EKG/Blood Drawing etc.

  • Directs and overseas Environmental Service worker to assure cleanliness of the Environment is maintained.

  • Participates in interview and selection of unit staff.

  • Assumes responsibility as charge nurse in absence of Manager, problem solving and communicating to other appropriately.

  • Assists in preparation of time schedules in absence of or in collaboration with Manager or when assigned.

  • Works collaboratively with Manager in approving vacation requests for time off including daily schedule changes.


  • Standing, Walking, Stooping, Bending, Lifting, Pulling, Pushing, Turning. Frequent

  • Lifts Objects from 10lbs. To 150 Lbs. Pushes Objects Up To 200 Lbs. Occasional

  • Sitting, Lifts With Assistance Objects Greater Then 150 Lbs. Carries Objects Weighing Up To 50 Lbs.


  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred. Must be enrolled in an accredited program within 24 months of employment, if hired after September 1, 2010 and obtain a BSN degree within five (5) years of employment date.

  • Current License and Registration to Practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.

  • Minimum of one (1) years nursing experience, required.

At the direction and delegation of the Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager assists with supervision of store employees, management and presentation of merchandise, completion of paperwork, and preparation of deposits. The Assistant Store Manager also performs stocking and cashiering functions, and performs other duties as necessary to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction while protecting company assets and reducing losses. DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Provide superior customer service leadership; greet and assist customers, and operate cash register and scanner to itemize the customer's purchase. * Open and close the store a minimum of two days per week. * Assist Store Manager with scheduling employees, providing adequate training for employees, conducting safety meetings, and ensuring employee compliance with company policies and procedures. * Follow company work processes to manage merchandise, including receiving, unpacking, stocking, restocking and rotating merchandise on shelves and building merchandise displays. * Assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls. * Assist in implementation and maintenance of planograms; ensure merchandise is presented according to established practices and Store Manager direction. * Assist in ensuring financial integrity of the store through strict cashier accountability, key control, adherences to company security practices and cash control procedures; authorize and sign for refunds and overrides, count register tills, and deposit money in bank. * Assist with management of the store in the Store Manager's absence. Qualifications KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS: * Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. * Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations. * Good organization skills with attention to detail. * Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. * Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages. * Ability to perform cash register functions and generate reports. * Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices. * Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control. * Ability to drive own vehicle to the bank to deposit money.
