SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Fleet Services Superintendent, this position assists in the planning and coordination of the Fleet Services operations within the Public Works Department. Responsibilities will include overseeing all maintenance and repair of large municipal fleet with 1250 assets including light, heavy, landscape, construction, and police vehicles. This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assumes duties and responsibilities of the Superintendent in their absence.

  • Assists Superintendent in all aspects of municipal fleet maintenance and repair.

  • Assist in Division Budget preparation and budget oversight.

  • Monitors fleet repair and maintenance activities.

  • Assists in daily operations and control of all fleet contracts related to repair and replacement of Fleet Vehicles.

  • Supervises the operation of the Scheduled Service Section.

  • Assists in the operation of the Paint and Collision Shop and Welding Operations.

  • Assists in the management of in-house parts management contract (NAPA_IBS )

  • Conducts tests, comparisons, and other duties related to Fleet Management as directed by the Fleet Services Superintendent.

  • Assists in developing and updating all vehicle, equipment specifications.

  • Communicates and coordinates with other departments on maintenance, repair and replacement of fleet vehicles.

  • Investigates and responds to complaints, recommending solutions to interdepartmental problems.

  • Monitors budgetary expenditures, insuring City procurement policies are followed.

  • Assists in the preparation of departmental reports.

  • Assists the Superintendent in the formulation and enforcement of departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for reviewing subordinate supervisor's work plans and procedures.

  • Assists in facilitating and maintaining a safe work environment.

  • Makes recommendations that impact the department budget.

  • Oversees Fuel inventory and property management.

  • Trains subordinate supervisors in technical aspects and safety utilizing department/division policies and guidelines.

  • Assists in coordinating and documenting investigations of all departmental accidents and injuries.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Assist , recommend, and implements disliplinary actions in a Civil Service operation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Automotive Engineering or related field and a minimum of six years of experience as a Line Mechanic and three years of progressively responsible positions in a Municipal Fleet operation. Valid Texas Driver's License required.

OR: In place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual's knowledge, skill and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Understanding and knowledge of all shop equipment.

  • Ability to use computers for data entry and word processing.

  • Ability to use or repair medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial mowers.

  • Ability to utilize a computer and shop management software.

  • Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, etc.

  • Ability to learn new software and improve processes with existing software.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skill.

  • Ability to operate computers and other basic office equipment.

  • Knowledge of Fuel Management Systems

  • Ability to Obtain TCEQ Fuel Site Operations License
