Working Environment

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND six (6) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Ten (10) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Department Statement

Financial Aid and Scholarship Services is one of several departments comprising Academic Enterprise Enrollment which utilizes a variety of strategies to enroll and support a diverse student population representative of Arizona State University's vision. The Financial Aid and Scholarship Services unit strives to provide excellent customer service with the goal to make each student's application for financial aid a simple and affordable process. Each staff member is committed to helping a student finance their education by effectively utilizing scholarships, grants, work-study and loans. The unit provides tools to help determine the cost of attending ASU, including a scholarship portal to search for available scholarships. The department also provides resources for student to use to budget their money and a student employment unit which processes department requests for student workers.

  • Experience in processing Federal Direct Loan and Teach Grant reconciliation.

  • Experience in processing Alternative Loans.

  • Experience in Title IV verification process.

  • Experience in processing and training new staff in loan processes and procedures.

  • Experience in creating and maintaining training materials and unit processes and procedures.

  • Knowledge and practical application in PeopleSoft, COD, NSLDS, FPP, ELM and the Searchable Log of All Conversation and Knowledge software program.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices pertaining to the assigned department.

  • Knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of budget management methods and techniques.

  • Knowledge of strategic planning principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of organizational management.

  • Skill in problem solving and decision-making.

  • Skill in planning, analyzing and coordinating activities and establishing priorities.

  • Skill in effectively managing, supervising and evaluating assigned staff.

  • Skill in program design and development.

Essential Duties

  • Assists in the management of the department and serves as a resource for the Associate Director of Loans and Director of Financial Aid Operations regarding requirements and trends in department.

  • Prepares or coordinates preparation of financial and administrative reports; analyzes and interprets statistics, financial data, and management planning data for predicting resource needs and developing long range plans.

  • Assists in developing and implementing both long-term and short-term goals for the department.

  • Develops, maintains, and implements department policies and procedures.

  • Serves as a representative of the University at state, regional and national organizations, boards, councils and committees as assigned.

  • Represents the college/department and serves on various department and university committees.

  • Acts as liaison with the community, students, faculty, and staff in facilitating university programs.

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates department programs.

  • Assists in the design, development and coordination of special projects.

  • Resolves problems and issues affecting the department and recommends measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.

  • May act in place of the Associate Director in that person's absence.

  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff.

  • Monitors staff performance and work in progress, and implements corrective action as needed.

  • Oversees Alternative Loan programs, such as Private Loan, Canadian Loan, Nurse Faculty Loan, and Nursing Student Loan to ensure accuracy and compliance in certification, processing of returns, and reconciliation within established timeframes.

  • Determines appropriate cost of attendance for students and awards federal, state and institutional aid to financial aid recipients.

  • Coordinates with both internal and external stakeholders to effectively facilitate and support specific programs.

  • Assists with reconciliation of Federal Direct Loan, Federal TEACH Grant programs and special projects, as needed.

Salary Range

$52,120 per year
