Position Description
Job Summary:
Theater, Dance & Media (TDM) seeks an Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies (ADUS), who serves a key administrative role in the TDM program, supporting both faculty and students. Reporting to the Department Chair on academic matters and the Director of Administration (DA) on administrative matters, the ADUS will play a pivotal role in student advising and continued development of the program's teaching portfolio, working independently to perform a wide range of duties related to curricular management and student advisement administration. The ADUS will work closely with the Department's Undergraduate Program Manager, Artistic Producer and thesis advisors, to administer all aspects of the undergraduate program.
Job Responsibilities:
Teaches two classes in the concentration per year.
Collaborate with faculty on curriculum planning and development. Makes recommendations regarding needed changes to undergraduate program and ensures that changes are made in accordance with College policy.
Manages course development which may include recommendation and implementation of course sequencing, scheduling, grading processes and exam sessions; review program goals, policy, curriculum, and program requirements and make recommendations for improvement.
Serve as the primary academic adviser for undergraduate concentrators; advises concentrators and secondary field students to discuss courses and progress toward degree; meet with prospective concentrators and attend/facilitate informational events.
Collaborate with Artistic Producer to oversee thesis process for all junior and senior concentrators, including: advising students on their prospectuses through meetings and workshops; supporting individual thesis advisors and evaluators; soliciting and collecting evaluations; leading faculty meeting to review prospectuses. Advises up to two independent thesis projects per year.
Acts as an advising resource for faculty and other academics regarding educational strategies and formats; Provides pedagogical training for new faculty, especially Lecturers and VLECs; Advises faculty on academic questions, such as best practices for syllabi and grading, concerns in classroom.
Advise faculty on how to support students facing unusual challenges.
Researches, resolves, and provides accurate policy guidance to faculty and other academics; Ensures compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations.
Collaborates with Academic Program Manager to calculate degree recommendations and processes recommendations.
