Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in higher education, student development, or related field with seven to ten (7-10) years of experience demonstrating complex data analysis and lines of inquiry related to student success.

  • Five to seven (5-7) years of progressive academic administrative experience with increasing levels of responsibility required, preferably in a higher education setting, with experience in academic advising, academic affairs, or student affairs is preferred.

  • Knowledge of academic program development, curriculum planning, and assessment

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrable knowledge of data-informed decision-making

  • Familiarity with student development theories and practices

  • Ability to build rapport and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D.) preferred, in higher education, student development, or related field preferred with five to seven (5-7) years' experience demonstrating complex data analysis and lines of inquiry related to student success.

  • Demonstrated success leading a program that led to measurable improvement in student success metrics

  • Comprehensive knowledge of best practices in student academic success, including advising, retention, and transition programs

Department/College Description

The Division of Academic Affairs includes the colleges, other degree-granting units, and more than 15 offices, departments, and support units working in concert to support students, faculty, and staff. The Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs leads the division and is responsible for shaping and driving the academic mission of the university.

Organizationally, this position is situated within the Office of the Provost, reporting to the Dean of Undergraduate Education and Associate Provost for Student Success. The Dean of Undergraduate Education and Associate Provost for Student Success oversees the following organizations within Academic Affairs:

  • Center for Teaching and Learning

  • Eugene Fram Chair for Critical Thinking

  • Office of Co-Operative Education and Career Services

  • Office of the Registrar

  • University Advising Office

Job Summary

The Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Student Special Projects & Data Analytics ("Assistant Dean") will collaborate with the Dean of Undergraduate Education and Associate Provost for Student Success to recognize, develop, and integrate with existing initiatives, services, and programs that cater to the learning, success, and well-being of undergraduate students. Building strong partnerships with stakeholders across the campus is also a crucial aspect of the role. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional project management and problem-solving capabilities, as well as high proficiency in analyzing and presenting intricate data.

Additionally, the Assistant Dean will play a key role in delivering regular and ad-hoc data analyses, collecting data, and preparing reports to facilitate data-informed decision-making regarding the success, persistence, retention, and well-being of undergraduate students. Reporting to the Dean of Undergraduate Education and Associate Provost for Student Success, the Assistant Dean analyzes assessment data and employs advanced data analysis techniques to identify patterns, challenges, solutions, and opportunities that enhance the outcomes of the University's undergraduate students.
