D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for an Assistant Construction Area Manager. The right candidate will be in a training position for the Construction Area Manager. Training includes maintaining current construction reports and verifying quality control in the homes built. Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed throughout the entire construction process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversee construction activities in the field either directly or through utilizing Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents and other construction personnel

  • Ensure set build times on each plan are followed and provide schedules to meet the build times

  • Evaluate community schedules to update and determine appropriate modifications to schedules and resources to reflect community's needs as they arise to ensure timely completion

  • Maintain responsibility for the profitability of the homes being built in assigned subdivisions and manage all cost by reviewing field purchase orders

  • Aide the Construction Area Manager in maintaining records of job changes, including option orders and purchase orders

  • Recruit, actively communicate and train field personnel regarding construction processes, safety, quality requirements, company policies and procedures

  • Aide the Construction Area Manager with field operations & quality control so the homes built meet company standards and are ready for homeowner orientations/occupancy

  • Inspect and ensure assigned subdivisions meet all safety standards in accordance with OSHA and state regulations

  • Ensure all homes in construction area are constructed to contract, specification and detail

  • Review and ensure all work invoiced is fully acceptable to company specifications and is 100% complete

  • Visit assigned job sites weekly to spot check quality and policy enforcement

  • Interface with public agencies in obtaining all necessary permits and approvals; or work with the Permit Department in obtaining permits and approvals

  • Interface with all municipal governing bodies, public utilities and industry associations; or work with the Land Development Department in obtaining objectives

  • Handle escalated problems with subcontractors

  • Respond to unsatisfactory survey cards and NRS responses

  • Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company

  • Ability to travel overnight

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises 2 or more employees

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university

  • Four to six years of related experience and/or training

  • Must have a vehicle and a valid driver's license

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications

  • Proficiency with MS Office and email

  • Ability to stand and walk for 4 hours straight or up to a full 8-hour day; sit for extended periods; kneel and bend at the waist; climb, balance and stoop, crouch or crawl; walk up and down stairs; walk on unlevel terrain; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision

  • Regular exposure to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places and risk of electrical shock

  • The noise level is generally loud
