Correctional Assistant Superintendent III / Associate Warden -  Operations

This position is located at Anson Correctional Institution, Polkton, NC in Anson County.

  • This facility houses female offenders in close and medium custody housing units and male offenders in a minimum custody unit.

  • The facility offers a wide variety of educational, vocational, and training programs for men and women.

  • Correction Enterprises operates the offender packaging operation at Anson, a partnership with Union Supply Direct through the Prison Industry Enhancement Program (PIE).  Family and friends can order a package of goods from a pre-approved shopping list to send to an offender.  Orders are packaged by offenders and shipped quarterly.

  • The Associate Warden assists the Warden in the total operation of the facility.

  • The Associate Warden manages the total custody section, including the food service operation and provides for the safety and security of the facility.

  • This position will review incident reports, assign and review internal investigations, conducts critical internal investigations, reviews offender requests and responds appropriately.

  • This position will assist with developing internal policies and guidelines.

  • This position reports directly to the Facility Administrator.

  • During the absence of the Warden, this position will assume those duties and responsibilities.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC15.  State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws.  This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision.  Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position.  We will not review resumes in lieu of Experience and Education listed on the application.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Experience with offender custody and program management in an adult correctional setting.

  • Documented managerial skills in a prison facility.

  • Knowledge of facility operations.

  • Knowledge of Prison's policy and procedures.

Management Preference:

  • Preference will be given to applicants who has working experience as a Captain or higher.

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of supervisory, administrative or consultative experience in corrections or related work;

or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience at or above the Correctional Lieutenant level;

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications:   Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
