Transylvania University is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to serve as the Associate Vice President of Information Technology (AVP of IT). Transylvania University, located in the heart of downtown Lexington, Kentucky, is a top ranked private liberal arts college featuring a community-driven, personalized approach to a liberal arts education. Founded in 1780, it is the 16th oldest institution of higher learning in the country, with approximately 1,000 students.

This role will be instrumental in helping drive the strategic vision, development, and lead in the management of the university's information technology resources. The AVP of IT will assist in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of all IT initiatives and infrastructure, ensuring alignment with the university's goals and objectives.

This is a fulltime position with occasional evening and weekend work required. This position is an office environment with occasional travel for conferences and professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership and Planning:

  • Collaborate with the Interim Chief Information Officer (CIO) to develop and implement the university's IT strategy.

  • Lead the IT department in achieving strategic goals and objectives.

  • Ensure the IT strategy aligns with the broader mission and vision of the university.

  • IT Operations and Management:

  • Oversee daily operations of the IT department, including network infrastructure, applications, support services, and data management.

  • Ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of IT systems and services.

  • Manage the IT budget, resources, and vendor relationships.

  • Project Management:

  • Lead and coordinate IT projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.

  • Implement best practices for project management and IT service delivery.

  • Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to stakeholders.

  • Team Leadership and Development:

  • Manage and mentor IT staff, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.

  • Promote professional development opportunities and ensure the team is up to date with the latest technologies and practices.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to staff.

  • Cybersecurity and Risk Management:

  • Develop and implement robust cybersecurity policies and procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

  • Oversee risk management and disaster recovery planning.

  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

  • Serve as a liaison between the IT department and other university departments, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.

  • Provide regular reports and updates to the Interim CIO and other university leadership.

  • Advocate for the IT needs and priorities of the university community.

  • Innovation and Technology Advancement:

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in higher education.

  • Identify opportunities for innovation and technology enhancement to improve university operations and student experiences.

  • Lead initiatives to integrate new technologies and improve existing systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, business administration, or a related field required. A master's degree is desirable.

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in Higher Education IT management, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven track record of successful IT project management and implementation.

  • Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, systems, and applications.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in higher education IT is required.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity and risk management practices.
