The Associate Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a strategic partner and provides leadership and policy direction with direct oversight for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging functions, including: the Diversity and Equity Center, TRiO programs, and international programs.

The Associate Vice President operates as a critical thought leader and strategic advisor for the College President and Leadership team. In addition to being responsible for coordination and implementation of strategic diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging functions, the role serves as a regular member of the President's Leadership team and responsibilities are very broad in scope involving college-wide functions and issues.

The Associate Vice President plays a key role in advancing the "Yes, and'' culture and DEI values of the College through the relationships between the College, students (prospective and enrolled), and community partners that further the College's mission, vision, and goals. The incumbent must have strong management, follow through and communication skills; understand and promote the connection between diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging functions and student learning and institutional effectiveness outcomes, understand and work with broad concepts as well as specificity, attend to fine details of policies, and exercise discretion and judgment and maintain confidentiality.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership, direction, advocacy, & administrative oversight for all members of the Equity & Social Justice team while promoting excellence & integrity

  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and improve a holistic diversity, equity, and inclusion plan that fosters cross-College involvement and is informed by the Five Dimensions of Equity & Guided Pathways

  • Create and foster positive relationships with faculty, staff, and students by maintaining effective lines of communication serving as a strong advocate for all faculty, staff, and students

  • Plan, develop and administer the annual budgets in assigned units, make recommendations on budget and financial data; monitor, control, and authorize expenditures in accordance with established budget procedures, and maintain appropriate records;

  • Review, develop and recommend administrative policies and procedures under area of oversight and college‐wide that comply with state and federal regulations;

  • Develop and initiate innovations related diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging that are responsive to the rapidly changing environment which our students live and learn and our employees work

  • Exercise a key role in strategic planning & outcomes assessment; program review, program development, & resource allocation

  • Expand, develop, & coordinate relationships with community organizations designed to increase enrollment & success of all students, including historically underrepresented student populations

  • Develop, initiate, evaluate, refine, and continuously use data-informed strategic processes which support student success and employee retention.

  • Assign, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the work of assigned classified, professional, faculty, and administrative staff.

  • Provide opportunities, sponsorship, and support for professional development, growth, and empowerment at all levels (faculty, staff, trainees).

  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to develop programming designed to strengthen the culture of inclusion, belongingness and engagement at the College.

  • Works collaboratively across the College to interrogate and analyze data to assess and improve institutional climate.

  • Provide strategic direction for training initiatives on cultural competency, racial diversity, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, building a climate of equity and inclusion, professionalism, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values and maintaining compliance in collaboration with School's stakeholders.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert, advocate, and resource for the College community.

AREAS OF OVERSIGHT

  • Oversees the College's Equity and Social Justice programs;

  • Oversees the systematic & ongoing evaluation of divisional & relevant institutional policies

  • Oversees the College's Federal TRIO Programs;

  • Oversees the College's International Student programs

  • Oversees and leads the College's Equity & Diversity Center, articulating vision, mission, and goals of the office and building connections with other units across the College and out into the community

  • Oversees the College's committees and groups related to shared identity

  • Leads the development and implementation of institutional training to promote cultural understanding and competency and a climate of equity and inclusion.

  • Clearly defines performance expectations for staff within the office, ensures accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring; conducts formal performance evaluations

  • Oversee the creation & implementation of annual operational plans for each area of supervision

  • Serve on College committees and provide leadership to College committees as may be designated by the President;

  • Act as the College's liaison to external agencies and organizations regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion matters (e.g. State Board for Community and Technical Colleges and other organizations);

  • Lead, participate in, or coordinate projects, committees or task forces as assigned by the President;

  • Discharge other administrative assignments, as directed by the President; and

  • Fulfill other duties as assigned.

  • Support the mission, vision and values of Everett Community College through courageous and ethical leadership college‐wide and as a thought leader and team member of the College leadership team;

  • Assure strategies that support student access, success and completion are appropriately prioritized and supported, as well as aligned with the College's mission, vision and values;

  • Work as part of the College's leadership team in support of shared goals across the College, regardless of administrative unit, making generous assumptions and conducting open‐minded analysis of situations that can assist all parties to learn from failures and create successes;

  • Commitment to a "Yes, And" culture by demonstrating the value of a cohesive, intentional and positive culture that brings out the best in all (i.e., being present and listening, making each other look good, embracing change and failure and choosing positivity);

  • Personify leadership that fosters diversity, equity and inclusion, that is transparent, positive, visible and ethical in terms of its service to students, the College and the community; and

  • Train, supervise and evaluate employees through College policies and applicable collective bargaining agreement(s) with courageous conversations and the appropriate use of candor and principles of trust, honesty, humility and compassion and the provision of support and appropriate resources geared toward success regardless of employee type.

Exemplify tenants of tolerance, acceptance and interest in different viewpoints, cultures, and backgrounds and demand similar conduct of assigned staff and department;

  • Accountability: Accountable for own actions, decisions, errors, mistakes and/or failures to act when appropriate. Accept responsibility when given, understand what duties employee is responsible for and can be counted upon to carry out those responsibilities; and

  • Teamwork: Demonstrate a willingness to work with, and help others in completing job assignments, the ability to accept constructive criticism, and to cooperate with fellow employees and supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field from an accredited higher education institution and 3 years of relevant leadership experience; OR Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited higher education institution and 5 years of relevant leadership experience.

  • Successful progressively responsible experience leading diversity advocacy initiatives, preferably in higher education.

  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience

  • Demonstrated experience with:

  • strategic planning and implementation, fiscal management, resource development and allocation, and supervision and development of personnel

  • building relationships, and working effectively with culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations, community organizations, and campus community

  • building consensus and coalitions among diverse stakeholders to achieve institutional goals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in student development, counseling, higher education administration, or a related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;

  • Strong leadership and coaching skills;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory

  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic policies, procedures and regulatory requirements;

  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, implementing forward-thinking strategies to meet the anticipated needs of the institution;

  • The ability to balance strategic focus with operational perspective (articulate vision, execute strategic initiatives, and manage the operations of College HR team);

  • Excellent communication skills; written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal;

  • Experience in public and/or academic environments; and

  • Familiarity with academic, community college or university institutions.

Work Hours:

Typical work hours are 8 am

  • 5 pm Monday

  • Friday with occasional night and weekend hours. Summer schedule is condensed to 4 10's, typically with Fridays off.
