Summary The Associate Vice President for Student Success and Engagement (AVPSSE) is responsible for providing
supervision, assessment, and oversight for the Division of Student Success & Engagement with an emphasis on retention, the AVPSSE will
provide oversight and leadership for the departments within the division including: Black Male College Explorers Program; Campus Safety and
Security; Campus Ministry and Church Relations; Career Development; Telehealth; Residence Life and Housing; Student Activities &
Leadership; Student Conduct and Integrity; Student Wellness, Access and Inclusion (including the Tiger Food Pantry), Title IX and
Homecoming. The AVPSSE will lead the Division's efforts of Student Retention and serve as a Liaison for UNCF and Trellis in
collaboration with Enrollment Management and will operate as the most senior-level student affairs officer under the leadership of the Vice
President for Student Success & Engagement. Responsibilities include investigating claims of discrimination, harassment, sexual assault,
violence, or misconduct and identifying the appropriate responses or resolutions as may be prescribed by Policy and Law while providing
education and training for students in collaboration with the Executive Director of Human Resources. The AVPSSE initiates professional
development opportunities for the Division's staff, prepares weekly cabinet reports and annual board reports for the division, as well
as leads in marketing and communications for the Division (i.e. Tiger Tales, Career Services Newsletter, Social Media). The AVPSSE
assumes leadership of the Division of Student Success and Engagement in the absence of the Vice President and assists in the development of
measurable goals and assessments relative to student attrition. Contributes to the overall retention of students. Other duties as
assigned. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In close collaboration with the General Education faculty,
provides oversight to all first and second-year student academic advising. Provides appropriate training to faculty members, and regularly
collects data on the efficacy of the adopted academic advising modalities used at EWU. The AVPSSE leads and assists with
enrollment strategic planning, setting goals and objectives, and implementing and evaluating new and existing services, resources, and
programs to promote student persistence and retention.
The AVPSSE works with staff and faculty to resolve student problems, mediate
and resolve conflict, and respond to student referrals, as needed.
The AVPSSE works collaboratively with the Associate Provosts to
ensure that there is a seamless message and delivery of high-quality academic support to all EWU students. Collaborates and
partners with other units and departments to build student success and engagement.
Works directly with university constituents to
coordinate a smooth transition into EWU for all new students. Serve as the senior leader responsible for the oversight of New Student
Orientation and Week of Welcome. Collaborates with the AVP of Enrollment Management to ensure well-coordinated onboarding of all
new students.
Serves as the Division of EMSMS liaison for all retention initiatives and affinity group coordination.
Produces and presents periodic, data-rich reports on the EWU's progress in meeting student retention benchmarks on a variety of
metrics. Serves as the University Title IX Coordinator.
Leads the DSSE in assessment, learning and performance outcomes,
and ongoing data analysis.
Lead the DSSE in professional development and strategic division planning. Serve as Divisional
liaison for facilities/maintenance communication and maintain divisional work order tracking system.
Serves on committees for
campus-wide events such as Homecoming and Tiger Fest.
Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications:

Title IX experience.
Significant supervision of staff, and financial expertise with an emphasis on
budget oversight, crisis management, and planning is required.
Previous experience working within a judicial system and managing a
code of conduct is required. Sensitivity to the roles and perspectives of a diverse, multicultural community is essential.
Successful candidates will also possess a background in student development and knowledge of the contemporary student issues and
challenges that are inherent in today's higher education environment.
Knowledge of emerging trends and needs in the student
population. Knowledge of higher education, student affairs philosophy, best practices, and the policies and procedures of a higher
education institution.
Demonstrated management/administrative skills (for policy, budget, supervisory, and program development and
evaluation, and responsibilities)
Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain interpersonal professional relationships and
excellent analytical and written communication and presentation skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
Individuals must be strong communicators and have excellent written, presentation, oral communication, and
interpersonal skills. Individuals must possess strong leadership skills, and be able to motivate and influence others. Individuals must be
able to think creatively and strategically, have excellent judgment, and be able to work in a changing environment.
