The University of Washington Tacoma has an exciting opening for an Associate Vice Chancellor for Development. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Development is a high-level key strategic leader whose focus is on developing and executing strategies to solicit significant gifts of impact in support of the University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma). This position collaborates with academic leaders and volunteers and is a key partner in designing and implementing development programs to sustain significant gift identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. As an experienced, motivated, and successful fundraiser, this position will propel UW Tacoma's development efforts to new levels, as well as lead and mentor a team of development professionals. The Associate Vice Chancellor for Development will prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in their leadership and their team's efforts to build relationships and resources for UW Tacoma. This role reports to the Vice Chancellor for Advancement.

What You Will Do:

Frontline Fundraising (60%)

  • Direct the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewarding of prospects and alumni by developing or facilitating relationships with potential donors and funds to UW Tacoma.

  • Advise in the cultivation, stewardship and growth of key prospects for the Vice Chancellor for Advancement and Chancellor of UW Tacoma.

  • Build and sustain long-term partnerships and trust while aligning donor passion and goals with those of the University.

  • Manage a portfolio of prospects, with an emphasis on significant capacity-level gifts.

  • Generate new leads and qualify gift prospects and planned gifts from research, prospect tracking tools, donor base, faculty networks and fundraising colleagues.

Strategy and Program Development (20%)

  • Discern and inform strategy development promoting philanthropic priorities for UW Tacoma.

  • Assist the Vice Chancellor with establishment of annual goals, objectives and the development of policies and procedures for UW Tacoma's advancement program. Evaluate and assess progress toward goals, and regularly report on results.

  • Provide strategic leadership in designing and implementing advancement programs needed to sustain and increase support.

  • Collaborate with UW Tacoma Marketing and Communications within an integrated Advancement model and direct communications campaigns to support the donor lifecycle from annual giving through to stewardship.

  • Leverage the expertise and processes of University Advancement broadly to ensure UW Tacoma embraces effective practices.

Team Management and University Leadership (20%)

  • Lead, manage, direct, mentor, and inspire a team of major gift officers and development professionals responsible for raising awareness, engaging stakeholders, and securing support from diverse constituencies. Enable staff development, career enrichment, and corrective action as needed.

  • Lead and assist with management of UW Tacoma's advancement efforts.

  • Professionally articulate and advocate for UW Tacoma's mission and funding priorities, while cultivating, nurturing and sustaining a collaborative culture of philanthropy and fundraising within UW Tacoma.

  • Represent UW Tacoma at donor events and at University, community, and professional functions.

Other Duties as Assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree and six to eight years of progressively responsible experience in institutional development/advancement or a related field, with an emphasis on cultivating and soliciting major gifts.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

What You Bring:

  • Experience leading, managing, or developing staff and teams.

  • Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, and forms.

  • In-depth understanding of donor strategies and advancement principles that best serve the mission.

  • Dedication to UW Tacoma's mission and vision in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging efforts.

  • Advanced degree is preferred.

  • Previous experience in higher education is preferred.

  • Frequent local travel expected.
