General Definition of Work

The technology associate, under general supervision, performs a variety of technical duties related to the implementation and operation of technology assisted instruction. Assists students, teachers, staff, and parents in the operation of technology.

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures

  • Assist staff with submitting helpdesk tickets and follows up as needed

  • Provide basic technical support to existing school computers, tablets, network, AV equipment, student and staff devices, and printers/copiers

  • Issue, distribute, manage, verify, and collect student devices each school year

  • Work with teachers and technology staff in the selection of resources that are compatible with the school technology infrastructure

  • Assist with the implementation of computer assisted instructional programs

  • Monitor and assist students in the use of the computer; instruct students and teachers on the use of the computer; instruct parents on the use of educational computers; assist students through drill, study and research activities

  • Assist teachers with the presentation of learning materials and instructional activities

  • Adhere to and communicates copyright as well as other laws and guidelines pertaining to the distribution and ethical use of all resources

  • Inspect computer equipment regularly; perform minor repairs on equipment if needed; arrange for major repairs on equipment

  • Facilitate school participation in technology programs and activities

  • Collaborate with the school library media coordinator to provide leadership in the school's use of instructional technology resources to enhance learning

  • Act as the point of contact for communications between Technology Services and the school

  • Enforce the Internet Acceptable Use Policy, Photo and Video Release Form, and Student Technology Agreement for staff and students

  • Share and distribute the CMS Student Technology Agreement each school year. Collect acknowledgements from students and parents

  • Assess and issue technology fees to applicable students and document parent communication of each fee generated. Share technology fee waiver process with any student or parent that requests it

  • Review, update, and maintain accurate device inventory

  • Prepare damaged technology for transfer to the repair depot and receive fixed technology back to the school site

  • Prepare aging, unsupported, and damaged school or classroom technology for surplus pickup

  • Attend professional development, professional learning communities, and other meetings

  • Perform related duties as assigned

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to school system technology

  • Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in education, technology, or related field required

OR

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

Special Requirements

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation.

  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
