Systems Technologist/Associate Technologist

Caterpillar is looking for a systems technologist at its Pittsburgh Automation Center in Pittsburgh, PA. In this role you will work on the exciting and technically challenging Automation Systems Development team. This team is responsible for developing and demonstrating perception systems, which are often used in conjunction with information systems, remote control, semi-autonomous, and fully autonomous machine control systems.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform field of view studies for various Caterpillar machines that use perception components

  • Order parts from suppliers, and build electronic components in house as necessary

  • Ensure lab system setups are ready on time for engineers

  • Lead various facility maintenance and improvement activities

  • Responsible for lab work that includes creating electrical schematics, drawings, harnesses, mechanical fixtures, assembling mechanical packaging for prototypes, soldering etc.

  • Maintenance of the systems lab, and on-site machines, vehicles (HEX, TTT, Truck, etc.)

  • Generate documentation for machines and lab test setups. Maintain revision control for all generated data and documentation

  • Work with various autonomy/robotic sensors such as smart cameras, radars, lidars and perform tuning and calibration activities

  • Will require to travel up to 10%

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor degree in relateddiscipline, or equivalent combination of experience and education

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience

  • Skilled at interpreting mechanical (part and assembly)and creating electrical (schematic) drawings

  • Skilled at assembling mechanical packaging forprototypes

  • Skilled at component and board level solderingof PCBs

  • Skilled in making electrical harnesses forprototype units and lab setups

  • Able to take instructions from team leads andwork independently to deliver

  • Valid driver's license required

  • Knowledge of Caterpillar products and policies

Conduct genetic analysis of blood, saliva, dried blood spots or human tissue to determine presence of abnormal sequence changes. Perform routine preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure. Verify proper instrument function by checking and calibrating lab instruments and document data. Abides by laboratory safety policies and procedures. The list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be substituted as necessary. Next Generation Sequencing experience a plus. Minimum Qualification: A bachelor's degree in biology or related scientific discipline and one of the following: two years of related experience OR completion of a molecular genetics training program, one year of experience in a molecular genetics laboratory, and ASCP certification. Working Conditions: Clinical and research lab environment; exposure to blood borne pathogens; must wear protective lab gear including lab coat, gloves and completely closed footwear. Employee may be requested to work shifts other than daylight depending on the needs of the laboratory. Weekend rotation may be required. Travel is not required. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use a keyboard, type, and occasionally stand and move to other parts of the lab.
