Mission

It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.

Job Purpose: Under general supervision, supports classroom instruction for all students according to their individual needs in collaboration with teachers and staff to ensure an effective learning environment.

Job Duties: Reviews and implements lesson content and instructional activities as provided by Teachers of Record (TORs) to improve students' content knowledge, and mastery of skills and to increase overall content knowledge.

Engages in best practices to deliver content-specific lessons and instruction to students using established distance learning instructional delivery platforms, where applicable.

Establishes clear communication with students, TORs, and all personnel within the distance learning and site instructional delivery platform.

Demonstrates technology proficiency in using district-endorsed instructional applications, web-based platforms, and learning management systems.

Displays professionalism and leadership by following established school, agency, state, and federal policies and procedures.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and experience in education, child care, or general administration.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to maintain discipline in a group situation.

Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely in oral or written form.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, students, and the public.

General supervision; annually scheduled performance review.

Work collaboratively and regularly with staff and administration.

Employees in the Division of Educational Services who occupy this position do not receive the extra nine (9) paid non-work days given to certified staff.

This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Agency Requirements:

An associate's degree or successful completion of two years of college or meet the standards of the Department of Education and the No Child Left Behind Act for Paraprofessionals.

Knowledge utilizing PowerSchool is preferred.

Knowledge of working with educational staff and administration.
