CDI/CDC is a California based, non-profit organization consisting of 160 early education centers, employing 1,500 talented professionals, and serving more than 15,000 children. Founded in 1969, we are an early care and education agency and are expanding our presence and adding new programs for families in California. We have four regions within California (Northern California, San Jose/Bay Area, South Counties and Oxnard) and internal mobility/transfers are an added benefit to our employees. Our Child Development Centers (CDC) range in size and may serve infants, toddlers, preschool and/or school age children. Most of our programs are NAEYC accredited and are influenced by the High/Scope and Reggio Emilia philosophical approaches.

ASSOCIATE TEACHER

As part of our teaching team, you will plan developmentally appropriate activities based on childrens interests and needs. Teaching staff complete developmental assessments (DRDP) within the first 60 days of enrollment plus a follow up assessment to measure each childs growth over a year and two parent conferences annually. Teaching staff build relationships which support ongoing communication and partnership with families. Teaching staff provide active learning experiences to promote language and literacy, math and science concepts, social development and self-help skills. Teaching staff observe and document childrens emerging interests and progress through anecdotal notes, weekly lesson plans and through the portfolio of individual work. Teaching and center staff create a welcome place for families and all children, respecting their home language, cultural values and traditions. Teaching staff follow Licensing guidelines including for supervision, childrens personal rights, and health and safety.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • 12 Units in ECE/Child Development or related field (be able to provide transcripts)
  • Child Development Associate Teacher permit required

Experience

  • 1 year prior childcare experience preferred

  • Must be able to prepare lesson plans, anecdotal notes, portfolios, desired results

  • Strong teamwork and customer service skills

  • Initiative, problem-solving, and time management skills with ability to work under pressure and deadlines

  • Interact with children in a manner consistent with CDI/CDC philosophy

We will work with you to secure a Child Development Permit appropriate for this position if you do not possess one now. Our centers work in a collaborative environment and as a part of CDI/CDC commitment of supporting employees career advancement.

The work hours of the Substitute position fluctuate significantly and qualified candidates must be able to be scheduled on an as needed basis. Responsibilities of this role will include, but not be limited to the following: physical caregiving, implementation of age appropriate/individually appropriate curriculum and facilitating supportive relationships with parents and coworkers. Essential Job Functions: Early Childhood Programming * Ensure the children's safety within the inside and outside environments at all times. * Responsible for formulating relationships with parents and children that are respectful of individual differences, family styles and cultural/socioeconomic diversity. * Responsible for ensuring that all meal and rest breaks for the staff and the changes in the daily schedule for the children [outside time, meals for the children, diaper changes, etc.] are done in an organized manner so as to create a sense of routine in the environment for the children. * Provide feedback to staff and program directors about consistency of practices within the program. * Strive to create a state of the art childcare program. Interactions With Children * In an effort to develop each child's language skills, responsible for communicating to parents, staff and the children in a positive manner. Strive to create a language-rich program. * Treat each child with dignity and respect. * Help each child to become aware of his/her role as an integral member of the group. * Help each child to become comfortable with him/herself. * Encourage children's active involvement in problem solving. * In an effort to develop the children to be effective decision makers, encourage children to be responsible for their actions. Working With Parents * Work with each classroom team to effectively address parent issues. * Create an environment that embraces open communications between staff and parents. Supporting Positive Staff Relationships * Attend and participate in all staff meetings. * Attend all recommended in-service trainings. * Direct all issues to the suitable person in a timely and appropriate manner. Administrative Functions * Complete all assigned paperwork (daily information sheets/daily attendance, shopping lists, daily staff-child ratios, etc.) in a timely manner. Physical Requirements * Continually able to observe and respond to children's needs, emergencies and/or conflicts that might occur during the day (inside or outside environment). * Continually able to supervise children outside exposed to the sun and changing temperatures. * Continually able to lift up to 40 pounds from the floor to a waist high table. * Ability to push a cart/stroller weighing up to 100 pounds for up to 3 miles. * Continually able to walk and run as job dictates. * Continually able to kneel down to maintain eye contact at child's level. * Continually able to sit on the floor to work with children. * Continually able to react to a child that is up to 30 feet away within 30 seconds. * Continually able to carry a child up to 40 pounds, up to 100 feet. * Continually able to respond to children's first aid needs (inside and outside) which may include cuts, bruises, blood/bodily fluids. * Continually able to communicate clearly and calmly to children, parents and co-workers. * Continually able to deal effectively with the stress involved in working closely with children, parents and co-workers. * Continually able to do fine and medium hand manipulations.
