Associate Scientist/Scientist Global Therapeutics Research Group
The Molecular Pharmacology team within Global Therapeutics Research is seeking a talented and experienced in vitro biologist/pharmacologist/in vitro pathologist that can contribute to our research efforts at Zoetis. This position will partner with Molecular Pharmacology team members, therapeutic area leads and project team leaders to build disease relevant models for hypothesis-based research and biomarker identification as well as to build robust testing funnels for substrate evaluation for a variety of therapeutic approaches to improve diseases in companion animals (cats, dogs, horses).
The successful candidate should have at least 3-5 years of relevant experience developing, optimizing, and executing cell-free, cell-based in vitro screens, and biomarker assays. Experience with developing phenotypic screens (co-cultures, 3D organotypic cultures, or high content assessments in cells, etc.) and biomarkers that can aid in monitoring compound effects in vivo or effects on disease states are also desirable. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.
Ability to apply a variety of cellular and molecular techniques to develop cellular models of disease for veterinary species.
Experience with primary cell cultures, co-cultures, and/or 3D-organotypic cultures, including cell isolation from multiple tissue types.
Experience developing, optimizing and qualifying assays to avoid assay artifacts such as cell-free (e.g. ligand binding assays, biochemical assays), cell-based in vitro screens for substrate evaluation, and biomarker assays that aid in monitoring compound effects in vivo or effects on disease states.
Experience with label free technologies, assays and platforms (e.g. incucyte, ImageXpress, etc.)
Collaborate across multiple scientific disciplines (bioinformatics, genetics, substrate experts, clinicians, PK/PD modelers, regulatory staff, diagnostic scientists) to achieve defined goals of the project team.
Design appropriate studies in collaboration with team experts to build mechanistic and semi-mechanistic models relating compound effects to relevant biomarkers and outcomes.
Ability to effectively communicate results to scientific teams and management
Experience in writing research reports
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Educational background: BS or MS (cell biology, pharmacology, pathology or related field).
Training or experience in biological sciences preferred.
Experience in the establishment of in vitro models of disease, in vitro screens and biomarker assays.
Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently with minimal supervision
Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, Spotfire, Outlook
