The Associate Scientist is responsible for the design and execution of experiments to further characterize and understand the mechanism of action of ARCUS nucleases in mammalian cell systems. The Associate Scientist will also apply this knowledge to developing improved applications of ARCUS technology.

The Associate Scientist will:
Coordinate with the Director of Therapeutic Discovery to design and execute experiments to characterize ARCUS nucleases.
Conduct experiments to understand mechanism of action of ARCUS nucleases within mammalian systems
Define pathways involved in potential toxicity of nuclease overexpression
Apply cell biology understanding to aid in the design and testing of improved nucleases
Contribute to the design and execution of cell culture based experiments
Design experimental approach to understand DNA repair pathways in the context of ARCUS nuclease
Utilize ARCUS Nucleases to generate proof-of-concept data demonstrating therapeutic approach or mode of action in model system
Define disease-specific cell signaling pathways and explore ARCUS-based modification of pathways for therapeutic application
Serve as Precisions Cell Biology Expert for internal and external purposes
Report results to Therapeutic Discovery team
File reports for internal use and for partners.
Generate graphs, slides, protocols and other documents for partners.
Present at lab meetings.
Participate in conference calls with partners/clients as needed.
Publish results as appropriate.
Share potential intellectual property developments with CSO and Patent Attorney/Agent
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.
PhD or equivalent in Biological Science with related experience and/or training:
Plasmid and genomic DNA isolation
Molecular Cloning techniques for Vector construction
DNA, RNA Transfection and Viral Transduction for expression in Eukaryotic Cells Systems
Protein Characterization by Western, Flow Cytometry, and ELISA
Cell Based Assay development
Experience with genome editing is a plus
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
