ROLE SUMMARY

The Research Pharma group in Groton CT is seeking an Associate Scientist to work in a team of research and technical staff engaged in the design and development of pharmaceutical dosage forms. The focus of the position is on generating high quality data for the development of drug product containing small molecule entities, with the ability to plan, prioritize and interpret your own work. The position is predominantly laboratory based, requiring 'hands-on' execution of lab experiments with the supervision of a scientific team leader. Activities include experimental design, execution, interpretation, documentation, reporting and communication of work to support formulation design and process development of solid, liquid, and topical dosage forms of appropriate quality (performance, manufacturability, and stability) for technology transfer to clinical pharmacies, clinical manufacturing (Drug Product Supply) or commercial manufacturing (Pfizer Global Supply) sites.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilize technical experience, fundamental scientific knowledge and agreed Best Practices in formulation design and development of both solids and liquids dosage forms for predominantly small molecules of pharmaceutical relevance.

  • Proactively address and/or solve formulation problems using the scientific method and appropriate experimental designs.

  • Capture key knowledge and formulation design/development activities and learnings in technical reports and share with the Drug Product Design community.

  • Progress your technical area of expertise through development of enhanced capabilities and applications to pharmaceutical issues.

  • Be a key team member providing formulation design and development support and project recommendations for partner lines.

  • Be a key member of the Drug Product Design discipline and collaborate with other Formulation colleagues to define and implement dosage form design and development strategies consistent with drug development timelines.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 0-3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry desirable.

  • Demonstrated laboratory experimental proficiency, including the ability to easily learn and trouble-shoot laboratory equipment and machinery.

  • Excellent record keeping and communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience developing and manufacturing tablets, multiparticulates (MSC), and the development of extemporaneously prepared (EP) formulations

The candidate will contribute to the Global DSRD Biomarker Clinical Pathology group to enable effectiveness across the DSRD Global Biomarker organization. The role will provide laboratory support for the Global Clinical Pathology laboratory including routine Clinical Pathology and investigative biomarker support to support both efficacy and safety evaluation of drug candidates for discovery, pre-clinical, and clinical studies. Routine clinical pathology analysis involves hematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation, immunoassay and urinalysis. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES The major duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to: * Generation of hematology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, immunoassay and novel assay development data in support of both safety and efficacy assessment of pharmaceutical drug candidates in compliance with GLP/GCLP and CLIA regulatory standards as applicable within a Clinical Pathology laboratory. * Ensuring the generation of the highest quality of Clinical Pathology raw data, contributing to methodology development for new biomarkers, contributing to technology development, author technical documents such as validation plans and summaries, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), User Guides where appropriate. * Exposure to new methods development such as flow cytometry and plate base assays is possible based upon individual experience and knowledge. * Candidate may develop/validate new methodologies or applications, process and evaluate data from samples for multi-site studies, evaluate data including study samples and quality control samples, participates in routine equipment maintenance and instrument and/or assay troubleshooting, provides data collation, summarization, QC evaluation, and archiving as required. * Contribute to biomarker assay validation, including planning, data collection, interpretation, and document authorship to support GLP and non-GLP multispecies safety studies and human clinical trials. * Assuring that Clinical Pathology laboratory activities meet quality standards such as Pfizer policies, Standard Operating Procedures, Environmental Health and Safety and departmental guidelines BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * B.S./B.A. in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science or related science related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience within a Clinical Pathology laboratory in a hospital or diagnostic company, pharmaceutical company, or CRO; with knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices, data collection laboratory informatics systems, and data processing applications * Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining a high quality of Clinical Pathology data and timely delivery of results * Well organized, self-motivated, detail oriented, and has the ability to work and effectively communicate within a team environment * Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to multitask, and highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with proven record of independent analytical thinking and collaboration, ability to relish change, energize others and are passionate about work and have experience with Cerner laboratory information system and laboratory based workflows.
