Editas Medicine is seeking a highly motivated in vivo cell biologist at the level of Associate Scientist II to join our In Vivo Gene Editing Research group. In this role, you will support on-going efforts to develop in vivo gene editing therapies for indications with high unmet medical need. You will contribute to the development and characterization of small animal models (mouse, rat) and cell-based assays to evaluate the extent and effects of gene editing. An ideal candidate should have a background in mouse models and experimental design, cell line culture, primary and/or stem cell culture (e.g., primary hepatocytes, cardiomyocytes, organoids, or iPSCs), and molecular biology, as well as a track record of creative thinking and a strong interest in genome editing. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary discovery team dedicated to the development of gene editing-based therapies.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

·       Plan and execute mouse experiments to understand in vivo activity of drug candidates, including pharmacodynamic activity using biomarkers, efficacy, and PK/PD properties.

·       Responsible for setting the objectives of independent initiatives and assisting with experimental design.

·       Perform intravenous (tail vein) injections in mice, monitor animal health, perform necropsies, and collect various tissue samples (e.g., liver, lung, kidney, skeletal muscle, brain etc.), and learn/perform additional procedures to fit project needs.

·       Design and perform cell culture experiments utilizing cancer cell lines, primary cells, or stem cells.

·       Isolate genomic DNA, RNA, and protein from cells and/or tissue samples and perform downstream molecular analyses (NGS, ddPCR, RT-ddPCR, Western Blot etc.).

·       Contribute toward development of new ideas and methods.

·       Suggest refinements and optimization to in-life procedures, based on study requests from project teams.

·       Generate technical documents, SOPs, study reports and other forms of documentation for IND-enabling activities and procedure development.

·       Suggest and implement changes to IACUC protocols.

·       Perform literature search, analyze, and present project background, rationale, data, and interpretation within the organization.

·       Share responsibility in maintaining lab equipment and reagent inventory.

·       Maintain electronic lab notebook in a timely fashion.

·       Interact with vendors, collaborators, and internal teams for various functions.

·       Results-driven with excellent attention to details and ability to independently execute protocols.

Education & Relevant Work Experience

·       BS degree in life sciences with 7+ years of related research experience or MS degree in life sciences with 5+ years of related research experience.

·       In vivo training and mouse experimental experience required.
