bluebird bio is developing potentially transformative, one-time gene therapies for severe genetic and orphan diseases. At the heart of bluebird bio's product creation efforts is its broadly applicable gene therapy platform for the development of new treatments for diseases with few or no clinical options. bluebird bio has two clinical stage product candidates in development, one for childhood cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy (CCALD) and one for beta-thalassemia major/sickle cell disease, and an early stage oncology program in partnership with Celgene Corporation.

Join bluebird bio's enthusiastic and collaborative team by contributing to the overall success of our novel gene therapy approach. The focus of this position is to provide support for the characterization of lentiviral vector. We are looking for an innovative scientist with the breadth of experience and drive to implement our vision for this function.

About the position:

  • Support the development of analytical assays for biochemical and biophysical characterization of lentiviral vectors, plasmids, and residual impurity analysis.

  • Generate, manage, evaluate, and maintain critical data in a highly organized manner, providing statistical analysis and troubleshooting where appropriate.

  • Support assay qualification and validation activities and interact with CMOs and other vendors, as required.

  • Cross-functional and highly visible position, requires active collaboration with the vector process development, research and quality teams.

  • Participate in generation and life cycle management of critical reagents and development of host cell protein impurity assay for broad range of severe genetic disease and cancer therapeutics for gene therapy and gene editing programs.

  • Assist in the generation, review and approval of technical reports and prepare scientific presentations, as needed.

  • Participate in general lab maintenance, maintain accurate and reliable record-keeping following good documentation practices.

  • Support analytical sections of regulatory filings for US, Europe and ROW.

About you:

  • BS/ MS in biochemistry or related majors with 4+ years (BS) or 1+ years (MS) of relevant experience in industry.

  • Hands-on experience with a wide range of protein conjugation, purification, characterization, and immunoassays using techniques like HPLC, ELISA, gel electrophoresis, cIEF etc. is required.

  • Experience with MS, proteomics, and related analytical methods is preferred.

  • Experience with qualifying and validating assays and an understanding of ICH/ FDA guidelines is preferred.

  • Prior experience of working with either lentiviral vectors or virus-like particles is preferred.

  • Experience in working with external vendors/ CROs is a plus.

  • Excellent organization skills, sufficient to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Must be able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Understanding of statistical tools, such as DoE, Prism etc. will be a plus.

  • Superb communicationsboth written and oral skills and "do-what-it-takes" attitude.

  • Independently motivated, detail oriented and good problem-solving ability.

VIEW JOBS 12/3/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-03T00:00 Summary: Solid Biosciences is seeking a highly motivated associate scientist whose primary responsibility will be to support AAV vector production with cell and tissue culture activities, as a key team member of the Vector Biology group. The successful candidate will assist the Vector Biology group with the culturing, plating, distribution, maintenance, and banking of cell culture lines. Important aspects of this role include excellent organization skills, flexibility, and the ability to thrive in an efficient, highly interactive, goal-oriented team environment, and work with minimal supervision. Key Duties & Accountabilities: * Daily monitoring, maintenance and banking of cell cultures, including sampling and counting * Transient transfection, infection, and harvest of viral vectors lysates * Preparation of reagents and media/buffer, equipment maintenance as needed to support experiments * Lab maintenance, ordering, stocking, and other lab duties as assigned * Maintain good communication and collaboration with colleagues * Performs other related duties and ad hoc projects as required by position Core Competencies Required: * Strong motivation and ability to work in a high-paced multidisciplinary environment * Outstanding communication skills – oral, written, and presentation * Collaborative, teamwork oriented * Results driven Knowledge: Education, Experience, & Skills: * Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field * 1- 3 years of academic or industry experience working with cell cultures * Experience with tissue culture, media preparation, and basic molecular biology, including basic lab skills (pipetting, dilutions, titrations, cell counts, etc.) * Previous experience with AAV production is strongly desirable * Ability to work independently, or at times, under close supervision * Ability to perform light physical work, lifting up to 30 pounds as needed, sitting or standing for extended periods, and performing activities such as repetitive motions * Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, and ability to quickly learn other computer applications * Effective written/verbal communication skills * Attention to detail, self-motivated, and ability to perform minor troubleshooting * Adaptable and responsive, and committed to completing tasks in a timely fashion * Ability to work efficiently and manage time effectively * Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment as a team player with a strong work ethic * Required laboratory skills include expertise in mammalian cell culture, aseptic technique, cell culture techniques, sterile media preparation, and tissue culture room maintenance Travel Commitment: * Some travel may be required Solid Biosciences Cambridge MA
