AbbVie is seeking an experienced, hands-on Scientist to join the In Vivo Pharmacology team at the Cambridge Research Center in Cambridge, MA. This individual will be responsible for designing and executing in vivo studies to support drug discovery projects.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Working closely with team members to design and execute in vivo experiments to support drug discovery efforts including target identification, target validation and efficacy of novel molecules

  • Developing new technologies and methods to understand disease pathophysiology and target biology

  • Responsible for implementation of in vivo studies and data collection as well as interpretation/analysis and presentation of results as needed

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Position will be hired based on level of experience.

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education with typically 3 - 5+ years of experience, or Master's Degree or equivalent education with typically 0 - 2+ years of experience.

  • The candidate must have hands on experience conducting in vivo studies, and should be skilled in ID, IN, IV, IP, SC, RO and rodent necropsy techniques.

  • Experience with stereotaxic surgery/ injections.

  • Experience working with transgenic models of neurodegenerative disease is a bonus.

  • Experience with biochemistry (e.g. ELISAs, WB) and histology preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to conduct studies under minimal supervision is required, with independent work expected on daily tasks and in-vivo assays.

  • Strong organizational skills that enable multitasking and working within timelines.

  • Ability to execute experiments independently.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to work across functions and across sites.

The Novartis Oncology Disease Area is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative scientist to join the Biological Chemistry (BC) group in a hands-on role to discover the next generation of innovative cancer treatments. We are an early stage drug discovery team focused on understanding and exploiting the molecular mechanisms of novel cancer targets for the discovery, characterization and optimization of small molecule therapeutics. The ideal candidate for this position will have a breadth of experience in developing biochemical and biophysical assays, profiling small molecules against protein targets, and collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams. This position will require creative input into project strategies, excellent technical ability at the bench, and the willingness to tackle challenging scientific questions. Your key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Provide biochemical and biophysical expertise to project teams at various stages of the drug discovery process through the development and execution of assays to identify and characterize small molecule modulators of cancer targets * Utilize mechanistic enzymology, enzyme kinetics, binding affinity/kinetics, and thermodynamics to understand the mechanism of action of novel therapeutics * Implement emerging cutting edge technologies and novel assay approaches to advance drug discovery programs * Contribute to medicinal chemistry drug discovery efforts to evaluate compound SAR and mode of action characterization * Mentor and train junior scientists * Communicate, collaborate and challenge assumptions to push scientific boundaries with a diverse team of cross-functional scientists Desirable Requirements: * BA/BS or MS degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Enzymology or a related field with 10+ (BA/BS) or 5+ (MS) years of relevant laboratory research experience through employment, internships or co-operative study programs * Solid understanding of enzyme kinetics, protein structure/function relationships and activity regulation, and mechanism of inhibition/binding studies * Experience with biochemical and biophysical assay development for hit finding, validation and characterization. Hands-on experience studying enzyme function, protein-protein interactions, DNA/RNA binding proteins, multi-protein complexes, protein oligomerization state and/or covalent inhibitors * Expertise in fluorescence-based assay techniques (HTRF, FP, or quench assays), label-free technologies (SPR, ITC, DSF, AUC, or mass spectrometry), and/or protein expression, purification, and characterization (e.g. DLS, SEC-MALS, FFF, DSC, CD) * Hands-on experience with automation to enable medium to high throughput assays is a plus * Proven ability to analyze, interpret and present data in a clear and concise manner * Excellent team-player, with strong communication and inter-personal skills Why consider Novartis? 799 million.
