We are seeking to hire a highly motivated and collaborative Associate Scientist II, with demonstrated skills in Immunology and/or Cell Biology who will help with advancing research program within the Discovery Immunology team.

The individual will be responsible for:

  • Design, development, implementation and analysis of experiments that aim at characterizing mechanism of action of targets and screening of small and large molecule drug candidates.

  • Performing cell-based and immuno-assays to support target identification and/or evaluation of candidate therapeutics

  • Maintaining of accurate records of experiments in the electronic lab notebook

  • Independently interpreting and presenting findings at group and team meetings

  • Communicating effectively and working collaboratively


  • MSc degree with 3-5 years of experience or BSc degree with 4-8 years of experience in Immunology and/or Cell Biology is required.

  • Experience with cell culture techniques working with cell lines, primary cells, PBMC and whole blood.

  • Experience in the isolation of RNA and transcript analysis by qPCR.

  • Proficiency in immunoassays. Experience with multiplex platforms such as MSD and Luminex.

  • Experience with multi-color flow cytometry an advantage.

  • Self-motivated individual with outstanding communication, interpersonal, collaborative skills.

JBIO works on projects from five Therapeutic Areas (TA) and enables discovery of new therapeutic concepts in collaboration with TA discovery counterparts. Utilizing highly specialized experience and knowledge, this position will be accountable for preclinical generation and characterization of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cells for multiple CAR-T platforms. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: generation and maintenance of CAR-T cells for in vitro and in vivo functional characterization; assay design and execution to enable CAR-T cell platform development; providing functional and intellectual support to the CAR-T cell group within JBIO. As a Senior Associate Scientist you will be responsible for: * Generation and characterization of CAR-T cells including T cell isolation from PBMCs, T cell activation and lentiviral transduction, and flow cytometry-based immunophenotyping * Perform conventional T cell functional assays including cytotoxicity, cytokine production, and proliferation assays * Possess functional expertise with genetic manipulation of T cells including electroporation, viral transduction, and other related technologies * Design and execute experimental plans with minimal guidance; analyze and record data, establish laboratory protocols, and contribute to technical reports * Deliver reports, summaries, and presentations supporting experimental results * Effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders including functional groups and Therapeutic Area partners * Support platform development for the next generation of cell therapies Qualifications * A minimum of a Bachelors of Science degree with at least 3 years of T cell biology experience in academia or industry is required * Experience in flow cytometry is required * Ability to independently design and perform 8+ color flow cytometry experiments is preferred * Experience in independently proposing, designing, executing, and reporting research projects is required * Possess the ability to solve complex problems in a creative scientific fashion * Outstanding collaborative and communication skills * Foster a working environment that encourages the company's commitment to equal employment opportunity and the value of a diverse work force Johnson & Johnson is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer.
