We are seeking an Associate Scientist to join our Quality team in Newton, MA. This role requires 2+ years of analytical laboratory experience, a BSc in Chemistry, Biology, or a related science. Experience with HPLC and HPLC troubleshooting is ideal, experience in mass spectroscopy (MS) a plus. This team member will need to be familiar with or have the ability to quickly learn a wide range of analytical and sample prep techniques to ensure we continue to create robust data.
Role/Responsibilities
Utilizing a variety of analytical equipment including LC, GC-FID, GC/MS, LC/MS, PCR among other equipment types
Working independently in research labs up to half of the time, facilitating sample and analytical method prep development, implementation, and testing
Working with the R&D analytical team on projects and support of R&D
Conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests on raw materials, in-process goods, and finished products.
Understand and practice various types of sample preparation and sequence batching, including using quality parameters
Utilize pipette and syringe-based techniques, among other volumetric techniques for liquid measurement
Utilize analytical scales and balances for sample weight or mass determinations
Login and retain samples for future evaluations using a LIMS-based software
Prepare reagents and standard solutions
Compile an inventory and maintain stock of laboratory supplies and chemicals
Maintain logbook records of testing analyses as well as other records as required
Diagnose analytical system problems and provide solutions as needed
Perform routine and non-routine maintenance and repair of instruments (HPLC) and equipment as needed
Perform system qualification and calibration of required equipment as needed
Clean glassware, refill/replace items/solutions as needed
Perform basic waste disposal per state regulations
Maintain Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals and products
Compose, review, and edit standard operating procedures
Learn new procedures and complete training in the operation and use of new equipment as required
Perform other duties as required
This position will require up to 25 to 40% travel for the first year working between an outside analytical lab and the main analytical R&D lab
Job Qualification Requirements
Must be at least 21 years of age
Subject to background check per state cannabis regulations
Minimum 2 years' experience with non-academic analytical chemistry
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related field
Skilled with HPLC operation and troubleshooting (Agilent and Waters)
OpenLab CDS, Empower, Chemstation experience a plus
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PowerBI)
Use of personal protective equipment including lab coats, safety goggles, and safety glasses
This is a role that requires traveling, must be available for travel up to two weeks per month for the first year
Analytical focus with the ability to collect and interpret chemical data
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands
Ability to comply with established safety standards for the proper use, safe handling, and disposal of harmful chemicals, substances, and hazardous wastes
Regular attendance is required
Must be able to work in a challenging fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to details
