ASSOCIATE SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Clinical Social Worker License Preferred

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Social Work or related field

  • Two years of successful experience in school, community, children services or mental health environment

  • Experience providing individual and family case management including working collaboratively with outside agencies

  • Knowledge and understanding of evidence based best practices in school social work to promote behavioral, social, emotional health for academic success and positive school climate

  • Ability to work effectively with staff, students, and public; skill accuracy in oral and written expression

  • Valid California driver's license and personal car for use on district business

REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned

FUNCTION: To address social, mental, behavioral, and environmental barriers of students and families that inhibit school attendance, academic learning, and safe school environment by performing assessments, case management, individual and group therapy, anticipatory guidance, education, and preventative management strategies for social factors.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides comprehensive, holistic, behavioral, social, emotional and mental health history and assessments according to established protocols based on current best practices of the National Association of Social Workers

  • Collaborates and consults as part of a multidisciplinary team with parents, school staff, School Attendance Review Board, and other district professionals to assure timely access to needed services, mental health, or other specialties so as to improve student attendance and academics; explores and assists in addressing behavioral, social, emotional and mental health related attendance problems.

  • Conducts assessments of students, families and systems/organizations (classroom, school, neighborhood, etc.) with the goal of improving student social, emotional, behavioral and academic outcomes

  • Understands and uses evidence-informed practices in interventions and service delivery designed to enhance positive education experiences and involve the student, family, other team member, school personnel, and community resources

  • Provides support to apply intervention in a multi-tier framework and address the ecologies (i.e. Home, school, community) most relevant to the problem being addressed

  • Provides case management for students and their families including home visits; provides individual and group therapy in various locations including the home

  • Participates in meetings with district staff and outside agencies as necessary to coordinate comprehensive health services for individuals

  • Utilizes data to guide service delivery and to evaluate their practice regularly to improve and expand services; provides accurate, timely and complete electronic documentation; maintains records and prepares behavioral, social, emotional and mental health related reports

  • Provides education, training and information regarding district behavioral, social, emotional and mental health related practices, policies, and responsibilities to parents, staff, students, and community members

  • Ensures that all services are provided with a culturally responsive understanding

  • Models personal and professional values of equity, integrity, caring, collaboration, personal and collective accountability

  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned

SALARY: $42.82 - $52.98 per hour, (10 month employees: Salary will be divided into 11 equal monthly checks)

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District's "Improvement of Professional Services" handbook, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable

NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION:

A new employee, or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification, shall serve a probationary period, which shall not exceed one (1) year of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationary classification at any time without cause, without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant to Education Code section 45113, a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationary period for that promotional position, shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was promoted.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
