Your role:

As the Associate Engineer, Packaging Reliability, you will work with and support the pack line team to enable reliability of the packaging operations across the facility. You will make recommendations to simplify and streamline day to day work processes and will solve complex problems by approaching them with a new perspective.

Your responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other members of the Pack Engineering team and plant leadership to help set vision, strategy, and goals for team and packing operation

  • Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes, receive guidance and support from Senior members of the team as needed

  • Investigate or resolve operational failure, problems and inefficiencies to ensure maximum useful life of equipment and provide technical expertise and support to the operations

  • Establish best practices, repairs schedule, predictive-preventative maintenance routines, and install machines, tools, and equipment on pack line

  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness

  • Develop Training material and programs for Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) across packaging operations

  • Collect, analyze and provide insight and solutions relative to operational data to evaluate operations, processes or products

  • Develop strength and consistency in Ardent Mills packaging operations by engaging, mentoring, coaching and training facility teams and packaging operators to develop technical excellence in the areas of equipment design, process knowledge, packaging design and analysis, and project development across the network

  • Collaborate with network operations to establish effective technical training for packaging operations and line operators across the business

  • Work with engineering and plant teams across the network to successfully identify, execute and commission capital projects relative to packaging operations, as well as collaborate on other projects and advanced problem solving

  • Ensure external bench-marking is in place in area of expertise to avoid missing important industry developments

  • Participate in associated trade organizations to develop a network of Subject Matter Experts and core technology contacts while keeping abreast of new and emerging technology in grain processing and packaging operations

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with 2 or more years of direct experience in packaging operations, or High School diploma/GED with 5 or more years direct experience in packaging operations

  • Intermediate level knowledge of packaging equipment, programming, and management systems

  • Prior Trouble shooting experience in operations for the purpose of optimization

  • Prior experience in project development from a cost/risk analysis, project management, and project implementation, develop capital project planning cost/benefit analysis, projecting return on investment and interface with the Engineering department for capital development, and project execution

Good to Have:

  • Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Engineering, Packaging, or other transferable focus

  • Prior experience and working knowledge in food manufacturing and production

  • Working knowledge of food safety requirements and HACCP

  • Lean Manufacturing background and certification

  • Prior experience with robotics, electrical equipment and troubleshooting high volume packaging operations

  • Prior experience managing parts

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions (With or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as is required by the operating areas (i.e. safety glasses, protective footwear, hearing protection and, at times, a respirator)

  • Ability to work a rotating schedule including nights, weekends and holidays

  • Ability to work a machine paced continuous process that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with conditions which include:

  • Heat/cold temperatures (inclement weather)

  • Indoor/outdoor environment

  • Dusty environment

  • Noisy environment

  • Frequent moving/vibration/ or other motion of equipment/processes

  • Elevated places, to include stairs/ladders

  • Ability to perform work at a computer and other administrative/managerial tasks

Other Considerations:

  • Ability to travel up to 65%

  • This position is key to a continuous 24/7 milling operation; it requires availability and willingness to be contacted to provide assistance in excess of 40 hours per week, including work on evenings, weekends and Holidays

We provide market-driven base pay, based on skills, abilities and level of experiences. The annualized salary for this position starts at $66,830.00and goes up from there. Our salary ranges are quite broad, and your individual salary will be market competitive based on your unique set of skills and level of experience. Additionally, because we believe that our team members are the reason for our success, we offer all team members (who are not excluded due to their collective bargaining agreement) an opportunity to earn at minimum 5% additional variable incentives based on contribution, company performance, and individual results achieved. Your specific bonus plan and target amount will be determined based on your role and contributions.
