Brief Job Overview/Summary
The Associate Provost for Academic Affairs will participate in the development of division-wide initiatives and provide managerial direction, support, and service to all academic units. The Associate Provost for Academic Affairs will serve as a liaison with faculty, administrators, external stakeholders, and other constituents in a collaborative collective bargaining environment. The Associate Provost for Academic Affairs will be responsible for the formulation, review, updating, editing, and implementation of applicable University Personnel Policies and Procedures. The Associate Provost for Academic Affairs is expected to exercise a high-level of independent judgment, discretion, sensitivity, and decorum in carrying out the duties of the office in an efficient, timely, and professional manner.
Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities
General Responsibilities:
Assists the Provost in the successful oversight of the daily operations of the Division of Academic Affairs
Serves as the Provost's representative and spokesperson in conversations with campus stakeholders, as well as with the Office of the President
Works productively to collaborate with other members of the Office of the Provost and the Academic Affairs leadership team
Other duties as assigned
Personnel Responsibilities:
Serves as the labor relations liaison for the Division of Academic Affairs by aiding the Provost with matters related to collective bargaining. This includes conducting research, implementing procedures with negotiated agreements, and serving on the Management Negotiations Team
Oversees and coordinates personnel request processes for the Division of Academic Affairs
Assists the Provost with the faculty, staff, and managerial review process
Oversees the hiring process for the Division of Academic Affairs and the supervision of direct reports
Professional Development Responsibilities:
Provides oversight for the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, which includes supervision, assistance shaping vision and leadership, and serving as a liaison between this unit and the Division of Academic Affairs
Oversees the internal awards process and serves as the liaison to the Research and Professional Development Committee
Oversees professional development opportunities, which includes faculty fellows, faculty associates, and summer institutes
Required Qualifications
Terminal degree in one's field from an accredited institution
Minimum of 5 years professional experience in an institution of higher education
Minimum of 3 years professional experience in an academic leadership position/role in a higher education setting
Experience working with unionized faculty in a collective bargaining unit
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with faculty and staff professional development
Experience in managing higher education academic personnel processes
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrate a capacity to lead in a collaborative environment while maintaining confidentiality
Evidence of a commitment to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
