Selective is hiring Property Claims Trainees in our Richmond, VA location. In this role you will learn to evaluate and adjudicate property claims by the successful completion of our training course (will include on-the-job, self-study, and classroom.). It is a great opportunity to learn claim investigation, policy coverage, damage assessment, estimating, legal applications and claim resolution. Trainees responsibilities include effective communication with insureds, agents and management, detail oriented investigation and analysis of coverage and property damage, obtaining supporting documentation and achieving positive claim outcomes for homeowners and commercial property claims.
Trainees will be eligible for designation of Sr. Property Claim Representative after successful completion of the property training course and demonstrates a thorough understanding of policy coverages and has developed proficient claim handling skills.
All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal/statutory requirements.
Attend training program and meet all requirements associated with completion of hosted coursework. The trainee may also be exposed to field inspections and training with experienced Property Claim Specialists.
Provide voice to voice contact same day of first report.
Obtain facts from insureds, responsible parties, law enforcement, witnesses, agents and underwriters.
Maintain contact throughout the life of the file and document status as needed.
Determine coverage, facts of loss and degree of damages/exposure and establishing reserves accordingly.
Work closely with Team Leader to promptly resolve any claim issues and develop all claim aspects toward a positive outcome.
Timely refer or escalate claims as appropriate, based on exposure and established guidelines.
Maintain quality claim files in accordance with appropriate property Q/A guidelines.
Provide excellent customer service through continued contact and communication of claim disposition.
Provide verbal and written correspondence on claim resolutions.
Energetic team player with excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills
Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize daily assignments
Must be highly organized with ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines.
Must possess excellent written and oral skills.
Must have valid state-issued driver's license in good standing.
High School diploma or equivalent and College degree preferred.
Following computer application knowledge and experience required: Proficient in most standard business software applications, particularly Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook), as well as internet research.
Business and/or accounting knowledge a plus.
