Position Summary

Undergraduate Education Studies at Stonehill College seeks an experienced, knowledgeable, and collaborative individual to lead our Education Studies department. The candidate will hold a faculty appointment and will have administrative, teaching, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission of the department and the College.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in the field of teacher education and will serve as the department chair, overseeing all Education Studies majors and minors, including undergraduate teacher licensure programs. The department chair will lead all departmental meetings; lead curricular initiatives, oversight of courses, pre-practicum and practicum programs, and pedagogy; work with faculty; and implement regulatory expectations consistent with the policies of the state department of education and the mission of the College. Expertise from coursework, teaching, and research should be in one or more of the following areas: Early Childhood Education, Mathematics/STEM, Mathematics Education, Education of Emerging Multilingual Learners, and/or Social Justice Education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversight of undergraduate majors/minors and licensure programs.

  • Leading the department in curricular vision, revision, and innovation.

  • Teaching, service, & scholarship.

  • Work closely with the Director of Graduate Teacher Education.

  • Work closely with the Undergraduate Field Placement Coordinator.

  • Work closely with the Assistant Director for Accreditation and Assessment on state licensure expectations.

Education and/or Experience

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. Expertise in Education or related field.

  • Extensive experience overseeing undergraduate teacher education/teacher preparation programs.

  • Minimum of five years PK-12 teaching experience.

  • Understanding of Massachusetts licensure is strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge/expertise in the field of teacher education.

  • Knowledge of Massachusetts licensure requirements.

Physical Demands Work Environment Licenses/Certifications

  • Massachusetts teacher licensure (preferred).
