Overview of Programs LIU Hudson, a regional campus of Long Island University, offers master's degrees and advanced certificate programs that prepare students for NYS certification as school counselors or school psychologists or for licensure as mental health counselors or marriage and family therapists.

Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities

The Counseling, Psych and Therapy faculty member (non-tenure track) is responsible for teaching, participating in accreditation, outcomes assessment and academic program review efforts, and for providing students with ongoing course and career advisement. LIU Hudson maintains a student-centric environment in which the delivery of quality instruction, attention to student needs, and campus engagement are critical.

  • Teach an 18 credit workload each year including fall, spring and summer

  • Advise students in Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, School Counseling and School Psychology programs

  • Design, plan, and attend recruitment, alumni, and current student events

  • Participate in outcomes assessment planning, the preparation of academic program reviews and accreditation efforts

  • Serve, as needed, on the Academic Oversight Committee, and other committees to address student grievances, curricular issues, and related academic and campus matters

  • Attend regularly scheduled faculty meetings and participate in a variety of LIU Hudson and University-wide events Education Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in an appropriate field such as counseling or psychology

  • A minimum of five years of successful teaching on the graduate level

  • Licensure and/or certification in a counseling, psychology, or mental health field

Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience

  • Knowledge of current research and trends in counseling and therapy settings

  • Experience in the use of remote technologies (e.g., Brightspace and Zoom)

  • An understanding of how academic institutions function.

  • Creative problem-solving and collaborative interpersonal skills needed to build positive relationships with students, staff, faculty and administration

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
