JOB DESCRIPTION:

Conduct biomedical informatics research targeted towards the development of clinical applications. Teach biomedical informatics courses in support of departmental graduate programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides informatics consultations to UTMB faculty, staff, and students.

  • Develops new biomedical informatics methodologies and establishes their own individual biomedical informatics research agenda within the department.

  • Generates and publishes informatics analysis of research data targeted towards clinical applications.

  • Develops and adapts innovative methodologies to advance scientific knowledge in biomedical research.

  • Designs and implements informatics analysis of biomedical databases

  • Initiates their own federal grant proposals to advance their research agenda.

  • Collaborates with internal and external investigators for informatics methodology grant development. This includes design of evaluation studies and preparation of the analytical portions of grant proposals.

  • Collaborates with biostatistics faculty to publish methodology manuscripts.

  • Participates and leads in national and international biomedical informatics research community.

  • Teaches both regular graduate level courses and short courses at a level consistent with the UTMB faculty and staff requirements.

  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism and competence in dealing with a variety of individuals.

  • Has ability to communicate research and knowledge to non-informaticians (statisticians, health researchers, medical professionals, students, etc.).

  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctoral degree (PhD or DrPH) in biostatistics, statistics, health informatics, or computer science, with at least 5 years of related experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five years of related experience in statistics, biostatistics, health informatics, or computer science in the healthcare field.

  • Experience in the design and analysis of health data (electronic health record data, social media, drug, omics, and other data from hospitals or health systems) towards the development of clinical applications

  • Prior experience in submitting and attaining federal or state funding, as PI or Co-I.

  • Classroom teaching experience.

  • Proficiency in computing, including knowledge of statistical packages, programming, and querying languages, (e.g., SAS, SPSS, R, Python, SQL)

  • Familiarity with database management and data processing.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Good organization skills.

  • Working knowledge of statistical and scientific research design.

  • Knowledge of data files handling techniques and engineering.
