Job Description

Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) invites exceptional candidates to apply for the position of Associate Professor and Director of the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects. The successful candidate will provide administrative, operational, and strategic leadership to the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects consistent with the university's mission and goals. The candidate will also engage in teaching, scholarship, and service, as well as maintain faculty qualifications that may be required by discipline-specific accreditation agencies. Depending on qualifications, tenure may be available upon arrival.

This is a 12-month appointment with a dual role as an administrator and faculty member. The administrative role is an at-will appointment subject to the approval of the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs. A workload of administration, research/scholarship, and teaching as appropriate to the scope of the position includes a 6 SCH teaching assignment for the fall and spring semesters, as well as the possibility of teaching one class in the summer for additional compensation.

This position is located on Texarkana's main campus in Texarkana, Texas. Work hours are Mon-Fri 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (with a 30-minute lunch) or as work and teaching responsibilities require.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides administrative oversight of the operations of the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects.

  • Develops and directs institutional grants acquisitions and management.

  • Cultivates an environment that supports and promotes faculty scholarship through workshops, symposia, etc.

  • Expresses ideas clearly, accurately, and convincingly in an atmosphere of respect and professionalism.

  • Hires and supervises employees as necessary to meet goals.

  • Performs other duties related to the position as assigned by the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in a discipline supported by the institution.

  • A minimum of five years in a tenure-track faculty position.

  • A minimum of three years of administrative leadership experience in higher education (i.e., coordinator, director, chair, associate dean, assistant provost).

  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, research, and service.

  • Experience in grants administration.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, management, and leadership skills.

  • Evidence of the ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Experience with a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Computer Science.

  • Five years' experience in academic administration.

  • Demonstrated record of success in externally funded research grants.

  • Demonstrated experience with peer review of grant proposals at the federal and/or state agencies.

  • Understanding of federal, state, and private sources of research funding.
