Position Overview

The Private Equity Associate works on a broad range of investment opportunities for Apollo's Private Equity business. The Associate works with a Principal and Partner in lean deal teams to evaluate investment opportunities across core industry verticals including chemicals, manufacturing & industrials, natural resources, consumer & retail, consumer services, business services, financial services, leisure, media, telecommunications & technology and other sectors. In order to understand the value proposition and risks associated with any investment, the Associate must analyze diligence data, scrutinize business trends, construct investment models and present an investment thesis and analyses to senior investment professionals. In this role, the individual focuses on Private Equity's three core strategies: (i) opportunistic corporate buyouts (ii) distressed for control and (iii) corporate carve-outs. Responsibilities include financial modeling and analysis, company and industry research, portfolio management and idea generation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Performing company and industry due diligence, including risk assessment and quantitative & qualitative analysis of business and market trends

  • Monitoring existing portfolio companies, evaluating platform and add-on acquisitions and evaluating exit options

  • Develop investment committee memoranda and materials with senior team members

  • Presenting and participating in investment committee meetings, including communicating analyses effectively to senior investment professionals

  • Conducting financial modeling and analysis incorporating various business projections and capital structures, while stress testing critical assumptions

  • Partnering with external due diligence advisors such as accountants, tax experts, consultants and lawyers

  • Working with counterparties to raise financings for Apollo's investments

  • Analyzing business performance trends of prospective and existing investments

  • Assist the team with additional ad hoc projects

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with an exceptional record of academic achievement

  • At least two years of experience in investment banking

  • Strong modeling, analytical, valuation and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to take initiative and be accountable for running a process to conclusion

  • Strong multi-tasking skills and attention to detail

  • Excels in a rigorous and fast-paced team-oriented work environment

  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to articulate and present complex information to key internal and external stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
