Job Description:

Under the general supervision of a senior staff member in Center for Mathematical Sciences (CMS), the incumbent is accountable for the statistical analysis and evaluation of data to meet the needs of our Manufacturing Division. The person will, through consultation with employees and teams, provide statistical expertise on experimental design, and the evaluation and interpretation of data.

The incumbent will evaluate data for submission to regulatory agencies and pharmacopoeia. The incumbent may also serve on various company task agencies and outside industry groups as appropriate.

Primary Activities

  • Objectively collects, organizes, and summarizes data for projects. Performs basic statistical analyses such as ANOVA models, process capability and control, linear regression, ANCOVA for stability studies.

    Generates a wide variety of statistical graphics adapted to the need of the statistical project. Objectively applies basic and advanced statistical techniques and graphics and recognizes the need for more sophisticated methods. Develops or adapts sophisticated techniques to meet the needs of specific projects.

  • Writes or adapts basic statistical programs to perform evaluations to create graphics. freely performs simulations (e.g. Monte Carlo techniques).

  • Mentors junior staff members in the application of basic and advanced methods and graphics. Prepares and conducts training courses and seminars throughout our division to familiarize scientists and management personnel in the comprehension of statistical techniques and methods.

  • Proposes design of experiments and study plans through consultation with our division's personnel and teams. Contributes to the generation of objectives and hypotheses to be evaluated via statistical studies.

  • Prepares oral and written reports to effectively convey study designs and the interpretation of studies.

  • Conducts second person reviews of the formal reports of other CMS members. Performs data verifications to ensure compliance with auditing standards for all data investigated for a project that results in a second person reviewed report.

    Reviews literature and attends appropriate seminars and classes to develop and maintain the necessary skill levels. Contributes talks to professional society and/or industry meetings. Stays abreast of the advances made in statistics as well as the field of computer applications and brings the relevant advances into departmental practices.

  • Participates as a full member on internal teams providing statistical expertise. Evaluates the impact of new regulatory proposals to our company's operations

Qualifications

BS with >15 years industry knowledge, MS with >10 years industry knowledge, PhD with >5 years industry knowledge.

  • The scope of technical skills expected is broad, including design of experiments, linear and nonlinear models, and univariate/multivariate statistical process control.

  • Outstanding statistical computing skills with substantial knowledge in at least two of the following statistical software packages: SAS, R/S-Plus, JMP, Minitab.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills to convey statistical concepts and analyses to non-statisticians.

  • Requires demonstrated resourcefulness and the ability to develop and implement innovative and new concepts/ideas.

  • Demonstrated ability for managing and initiating change.

  • Requires demonstrated influence, ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously with directional priorities.

  • Requires established ability to direct cross-functional teams effectively, motivate people, delegate appropriately and resolve conflicts.

Under the general direction of a Director or Executive Director, Epidemiology, the Senior Principal Scientist, Epidemiology (Senior Director), has responsibility for the design, placement, conduct, analysis, and reporting of pharmacoepidemiologic research studies on assigned our company products and for providing consultation on epidemiologic issues, as needed. Key responsibilities include and are not limited to the following: * Has overall responsibility for worldwide pharmacoepidemiologic planning and study recommendations for assigned our company products. The Epidemiology Department supports all drugs, vaccines, and biologics in all therapeutic areas. The primary focus of this position is infectious diseases (ID) and vaccines. Although staff are expected to develop primary subject matter expertise in one or more therapeutic areas, staff may receive assignments in any therapeutic area depending on need. * Has lead responsibility for interaction with risk management subteams, value evidence subteams, clinical/regulatory subteams, and other areas of our company's Research Laboratories on epidemiologic matters related to product safety and risk management, post-marketing safety and effectiveness studies, regulatory activities, clinical study design, efficacy and safety endpoint qualification/standardization for clinical trials, and biomarkers/molecular epidemiology/genetic epidemiology. * Has responsibility for the design, conduct, and analysis of epidemiologic research studies on assigned our company's products worldwide. * Provides scientific oversight and mentorship to more junior Epidemiology staff. * Presents epidemiologic research plans and results to internal review and governance committees; to external agencies and health authorities such as FDA, EMA, CDC, and WHO; and at scientific conferences. * Maintains close working relationships with colleagues in Clinical Safety and Risk Management, Clinical Research, Regulatory, Outcomes Research, Health Economics and Commercial. Assists them in areas where knowledge of epidemiology is relevant. * Contributes to our company's prestige by maintaining recognition as an expert in his/her field; may publish independent scientific research in leading journals, participate in and present at scientific organizations and meetings, and serve as a peer reviewer for scientific journals. * May hold academic appointments, teach graduate courses, and supervise Ph.D. dissertations and post-doctoral fellows.
