Generate is hiring a service-minded Payroll & Benefits Associate who is organized, detail-oriented, and a strong communicator. This person must thrive in a fast-paced, growing organization and understand the value of strong processes. They will become an expert in our software systems to deliver a seamless, efficient, and organized payroll & benefits administration process. This person is passionate about the type of work Generate is doing and looking to apply their experience to help scale a rapidly growing business. This person can juggle - and juggle well - managing a variety of stakeholders and projects simultaneously while providing the highest standards of service.
What you will be doing at Generate Capital as the Associate, Payroll & Benefits:
Administer payroll and benefits, ensuring all forms of compensation are properly reconciled and paid timely
Process payroll on a semi-monthly basis, including preparing and loading data batches, processing and auditing payroll reports, and handling post processing tasks as assigned
Address payroll tax (federal, state, local, FICA, etc.) activities to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, answer employee questions related to tax forms (state withholding, W-4, etc.), troubleshoot issues related to the payroll tax
Ensure accurate processing of new hires, terminations, raises, bonuses, bank and address changes, and other personnel events in Workday
Register new local tax jurisdictions and/or earnings and deduction codes, and set them up in Workday
Process health benefit enrollments and qualifying event changes and all benefit related documents
Work closely with Senior Manager, benefit brokers and vendors to ensure timely and accurate ACA reporting compliance, 5500 filings, IRS and DOL filings and audit responses, and all other benefit related compliance obligations. Assist with benefit-related issues (e.g. deduction discrepancies)
Ensure that plans are designed and managed in compliance with all applicable regulations such as ACA, HIPAA, DOL, FMLA and ERISA
Prepare and maintain employee files, input individual employee benefits information into employee database/system, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality, (i.e. unemployment claims, worker compensation, FMLA)
Act as initial resource for employee payroll and benefit related processes and questions, including calculation of wages, deductions (including taxes and benefit premiums), PTO, enrollment, and other related inquiries
Follow payroll policy and best practices as well as bring your own ideas to the table on how we can improve them
Maintain the highest level of confidentiality for all employee payroll and personnel records
Candidate qualifications & core characteristics:
A demonstrated passion for, or commitment to, our mission
4+ years of relevant experience at a high growth start-up and/or public company
Minimum 2 years of payroll and tax experience in multiple states to include experience working with tax agencies strongly preferred
A thorough knowledge and understanding of payroll tax and the regulatory environment, which includes federal, multistate, and local tax regulations
Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
Comfortable with Excel and other Microsoft office applications
Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to payroll and benefits
Experience with Workday strongly preferred
Exceptional communication and customer service skills, including empathy, intuition, and listening

Generate's compensation packages are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Salary decisions take into account a wide variety of factors including, but not limited to: skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, geographic location, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is $80,000 - $125,000. In addition, the compensation package may include a discretionary bonus and other benefits, including health care benefits, retirement benefits, benefits permitting paid days off (including sick leave, parental leave, and paid time off or vacation benefits), and other benefits that must be reported for federal tax purposes. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of this range.
