Responsibilities & Requirements

JOB SUMMARY:

The OB Technician provides patient care under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. OB Technicians are trained as an OB Obstetric scrub tech. They assist the medical and nursing staff in the operating room in maintaining sterility, OR counts, handing off instruments and setting/tearing down OR for next case.

Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team. The HUC collaborates with unit leadership in coordinating daily activities of the patient care unit including the process of patient records and ongoing communication with nursing staff, physicians and interdepartmental personnel.

The OB Associate Tech/Health Unit Coordinator reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Graduate

  • Obstetrical experience preferred

  • One year experience as a nursing assistant or OB tech in a hospital setting required

SKILLS AND OTHER:

  • Proven effective interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrates appropriate telephone etiquette

  • Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills

  • Customer Service skills

  • Able to multitask, prioritize and function in a high stress environment
