About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy's Nuclear Opearting Company (FENOC) Perry Nuclear Power Plant [PEN], a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

The Associate Nuclear I&C Technician and the Nuclear I&C Technician positions are represented by Local 270 Perry Technicians of the Utility Workers Union of America affiliated with the AFL-CIO.

Duties and Qualifications vary by job level. Placement will be based on candidate's education and experience.

A. Associate Nuclear I&C Technician Duties

Under directive supervision, responsible for performance of all I&C testing and maintenance activities, as assigned, including inspections, calibrations, testing, repairs, rework, modifications, and such duties as:

  • Testing and maintenance activities on I&C equipment and component troubleshooting, assembly, alignment, and inspection including accurate documentation;

  • Ensuring Personnel and Equipment Safety precautions have been taken prior to initiating a maintenance or testing activity, including verification and compliance of Equipment Clearances and Radiological Work Permits;

  • Performing on-the-job training/evaluations in the proper use of tools, test equipment and procedures to ensure compliance with plant specific and industry accepted standards of performance;

  • Providing I&C support to other departments and support service, as requested to resolve issues;

  • Performing emergency response organization duties as assigned;

  • Supporting vendors and other I&C employees in the performance of maintenance and testing activities;

  • Completing assigned activities to support timely implementation of required plant operations based on qualifications;

  • Responsible for maintaining I&C Shops, job work sites, test equipment areas and lab equipment in a safe, orderly, and neat condition;

  • Assisting in the development and review of Maintenance Procedures and methodologies;

  • Performing testing and corrective and elective maintenance in accordance with the work management schedule;

  • Reporting abnormal conditions observed or encountered, such as abnormal operating and safety conditions or violations of security procedures;

  • Performing emergency response organization duties as assigned;

  • Performing similar or less skilled duties as assigned;

  • Working with employees in higher classifications and performing other duties in accordance with the Forward to the Job Manual.

B. Nuclear I&C Technician Duties

Under general supervision, performs all I&C testing and maintenance activities, as assigned, including inspections, calibrations, testing, repairs, rework, modifications, and performs such duties as:

  • As directed, becoming the lead individual for vendor and other I&C employees in the performance of maintenance and testing activities based on qualifications;

  • Assisting in the development and review of Maintenance Procedures and methodologies;

  • Completing assigned activities to support timely implementation of required plant operations based on qualifications;

  • Performing on-the-job training/evaluations in the proper use of tools, test equipment and procedures to ensure compliance with plant specific and industry accepted standards of performance;

  • Reporting abnormal conditions observed or encountered, such as abnormal operating and safety conditions or violations of security procedures;

  • Performing emergency response organization duties as assigned;

  • Performing similar or less skilled duties as assigned;

  • Working with employees in higher classifications and performing other duties in accordance with the Forward to the Job Manual.

C. Qualifications

Must meet the Company's requirements as to General Qualifications and in addition:

  • Associates Degree in electronics or instrumentation or equivalent experience/ education;

  • Must pass all qualifying exams;

  • Nuclear I&C Technicians must meet all duties and qualifications of an Associate I&C Technician i.e., must have at least two years experience as an Associate I&C Technician or equivalent;

  • Must achieve and maintain all training and qualification, especially in the areas of indoctrination, sensors, analytical instrumentation, measuring and control, instrumentation, and safety;

  • Must be able to evaluate and interpret data and drawings, perform computations, properly use tools and other equipment, and effectively communicate with others;

  • Must possess the ability to be flexible, accountable, and responsible; manual dexterity; normal color perception; and a cooperative temperament;

  • Must satisfactorily progress in and complete the prescribed training courses required by the Company, or any regulatory agency;

  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate a company motor vehicle;

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access to the protected area of the plant.

The required tests have been developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies. Under directive supervision, in accordance with Regulatory requirements, Station Operating License, Technical Specifications, and Operating Procedures, operates plant equipment, performs chemistry and radiochemistry analyses, and maintains logs of routine operations and analyses: performs such duties as: * Collecting, preparing, and analyzing samples of various gases, water, oils, waste, and environmental processes as assigned; * Performing routine instrument analyses, instrument checks and calibrations of chemistry and radiochemistry analysis equipment as qualified; * Operating and monitoring chemistry treatment and process systems, recommending changes in feed or control systems; * Actively participate during class room and OJT/TPE instruction and training as assigned; * Completing initial and incumbent or specialized qualifications as well as re-qualifications meeting training milestones as assigned; * Actively maintain housekeeping, work areas, and equipment in good order during and upon completion of work activities; * Being responsible for preparation and maintenance of records in connection with the work; * Assisting in testing of Station equipment and systems; * Assisting in the reporting of errors and making suggestions for improvements of Station procedures and tests; * Reporting abnormal or unusual conditions observed or encountered; such as abnormal operating conditions, safety conditions, and violations of security procedures using the corrective action program as required; * Performing all work in accordance with prescribed safety rules and regulations; and those associated with emergency procedures * Inventory, estimation, and requisition of necessary consumables, equipment, and supplies, as assigned. * Working with employees in higher classifications and performing other duties in accordance with the Forward to the Job Manual. * Performing similar or less skilled duties as assigned.
